Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The view of the lake is great but I consider that some of the animals are stressed and they need extra space to live.

they have a fantastic collection of local animals, reptiles and birds here, some of which you could only dream of seeing in the wild (jaguar, ocelot, puma, pink dolphin, paiche, otters etc) but most of the enclosures and cages are in poor condition and not well suited to the animals

The zoo offers a wide overview of all the jungle animals although it's sad to see them in cages.
It's a nice walk through the zoo, the sunset is very nice on the lagoon.
Beware of the guides who offer to walk you through the zoo, they seem to volunteer but then they charge you much more than you would have expected. If you do take a guide, make sure you agree on the price before you start the tour.
The entrance fee is 9 soles per person (foreigners)

Firstly, I have nothing against good zoos, where the animals are looked after well. However, this zoo was an utter disgrace.
We went to the zoo and first thing we see are some tucans in a tiny cage, who looked depressed. It was a look I never thought birds could have, but Quistacocha zoo proved me wrong.
Some enclosures were a bit more spacious, and gave the animals a bit of freedom, until you come to the 'feline' attractions. A cage, smaller than my bedroom housed two ocelots, who literally just lay in a corner. There was a small monkey island, which was a bit better than the usual caged enclosures with no freedom or space for multiple monkeys who seemed, again to be depressed. It was sadly ironic that the park posts signs asking guests to respect the animals, when it fails to do so themselves. The trees and botanical gardens are given more respect than the animals.
The animals and the park itself seemed mismanaged and I would urge people to avoid it. This park was the biggest disappointment in Iquitos, and in my four and a half months travelling South America. Find something else to do with your time, and don't support this place.
It could be so much better, the animals could be treated humanely and be given more freedom with some better management. I hope they begin to work on the animal welfare.
As for other facilites, the male bathroom was flooded, dingy and disgusting, and provided no toilet paper or soap. After five days in the jungle I thought I'd experienced the most basic form of restroom. I was once again proved wrong.
There is a beach area, which is littered with rubbish. Otherwise it looks quite nice.

I went there believing that it was more a reserve than a zoo. But I was wrong. Tiny cages for big animals like 2 panthers for example. And for the other animals, all of them are all alone in there tiny cages.
Also a delphin in there. Just in case people does not know, when delphins are not free, they kill themselves.
It's worse than a normal zoo, the cages are very tiny and I didn't like my day at all. moreover, the prices are also discriminent: 4 soles for a Peruvian, 10 soles for a stranger !

The only nice thing at that place is the beach. The animals are
kept in very small cages, which are dirty. All animals look pretty sad and depressed. I didbt enjoy any minute there. The day after, I went to Pilpintuwasi, a friendly, educational rescue center and butterfly farm where the animals are loved. Better spend your money there.

We had reservations about visiting this zoo as just visiting the country its hard not to notice that animal welfare is not paramount but after it was reccommended by a local, we thought maybe the zoo was acceptable and may take us by suprise. Our first negative experience was being charged 11 soles for being foreign-this inflation based on nationality is rife but foreigners admission is 9 soles so go to Iperu and check admission fees before you go anywhere!
After paying admission the first few exhibitions are ok, not great but you don´t expect the building quality to be the same anyway but i was relieved that it was just ok. It didnt take long for that to change. The Animals have no Access to clean wáter, the wáter is black! The cages stank and it was obvious some of the food had been rotting inthe heat for days making it in edible! When we saw two pumas in a 6ft by 6ft hexagon cage and 8 spider monkies inthe same, we just walked out. The focus of the zoo isn´t the animals, the visitor beach was more popular, the staffs cockiness....lounging inthe sun outside their shops while the beach was littered and rubbish had been thrown to the animals was infuriating.
Do NOT support this zoo! It is government funded and is downright atrocious, a national embarrassment that they advertise this to tourists and not only rip us off but clearly CLEARLY do not invest the money into leading by example or even aiming to target foreign standards of small zoos (colchester, paignton, paradise) to showcase pride and basic animal welfare needs. Giving your money out of guilt to help the animals is only a way for the government to fill there pockets, even with that in mind, that is no excuse for these human beings who supposedly intelligant enough to have decency, that work at the zoo to openly neglect these animals. Government and management is no excuse to not pick up a broom!!!!
This zoo has so much empty space to offer, this centre is nothing but an uneducated, flithy trap with not enough care to even get the exhibition information correct with the Animal it is showcasing or researching basic standards of care. Whoever wrote this zoo was excellent, i wish you knew how wrong you was.
Do NOT be guilt tripped by thinking "If i don´t support fiancially, the Animals will be worse off". The Animals will never be better, the government wants your money for themselves!

Animals are kept in really small fenced in areas and look unhappy. It was more depressing than entertaining. Not worth the drive. Has access to a beach and cafeteria.

Be warned this place does not care for its animals. They are in tiny, bare little cages. We felt horrible after visiting here. If you want to see animals well cared for visit pilpintuwasi butterfly farm and animal orphanage in padre cocha.

Well, I didn't think to go to the zoo, because I had heard it was bad, but like others here, I went because I had time after visiting the Manatee rescue center, and wanted to see these animals I missed in the jungle (otorongos and sachavaca won't be seen there!). That was a very bad idea! I'd rather see some documentals about wild life, because what I saw was just sad and depressing. First, as a foreigner I paid 9 soles, and I'm sorry to have given some money to the 'administrators' of the zoo who, said the staff itself when I told them I was chocked about the conditions of captivity of the animals, are sadly only interested in money and not in the animals or visitors. I saw some little animals without water and suffocating. Pumas, and many other species, are in tiny pure concrete rooms, disgusting... There is a lot of space around, why did they close them in so little space? It's pure mean. Well, this zoo should be closed and it should be forbiden to treat animals like that. The sandy beach is beautiful, but there are many other places to go for a swim around Iquitos without participating to this. Just don't go!

Voy a visitar Iquitos en Agosto y me gustaria conocer Quistococha y algun albergue nativo.
Cual agencia de turismo recomendarian?
Written 23 February 2015
¡Buen viaje!
