Lima Peru presents many great architectural, cultural and otherwise historical sites. The central city government plaza is clean, scenic and nice. Further away the city becomes run-down...the last major earthquake left damage from the port to near city center. Sad.

We had a 10 hour layover in Lima so decided to take a taxi to the Centro Historico de Lima, and we were pleased to get to see the commotion when there were some dignitaries arriving for the easter celebration at the Palacio de Gobierno de Peru. There were people lining the streets as the procession took place. We also... More

The Centro Historico de Lima is a very beautiful historical area of old Colonial Lima. The plaza is surrounded by beautiful buildings of the 19th century. For me it was a must see in Lima.

The historical part of Lima is worth spending some hours, at least one day. There are a lot of places and buildings to see and visit, but I recommend to pick the most interesting of them

This area of Lima gives an insight of the nice buildings stated by the Spanish when they ruled over Lima. It's a crowded place to visit.

The place to visit to get a feel of the old colonial, post-colonial and early part of the 19th century Perú. Full of very interesting buildings ranging from colonial to republican, art-nouveau, art-deco, modernist inspired in Le Corbusier, brutalist, etc etc. It is safe and during the day is busy with locals going about their business or doing stuff in... Interesting history, and beautiful architecture. We love the noon parade, el Cambio de Guardia at el Palacio de Gobierno. Because of OPEC congress, it was longer. Nice experience

Very nice buildings and old architecture. Start from central plaza where all building face and the magnificent cathedral faces. Lots of other building to see and take up in your stride

Had a walking tour of the old city and it was made quiet special by our guide Paula. Frantic pace with lots of people, it was the day before New Years Eve and they start partying from that date. Visited two churches including the Catacombs. The whole area is quite old as some lovely architecture, well worth a visit.

..and lots to explore. Definitely a must go in Lima. Don't miss a visit to the Cathedral. Also good in combination with the free walking tour.
