Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Getting in was odd. They ask your country but then hadn't heard of the UK (we gave the full name in Spanish). It is a major world economy! There is no map of the museum made available when you enter. Given it's sprawling nature, this is important. We were ushered towards the European section of the museum which we had no interest in. The Incan section was closed so we only saw the Chavin display. Security guards were following us everywhere which was very unwelcoming.

I think some parts were closed due to remodeling but i could see some parts. i consider this museum as a completely average based on the exhibits and the building. it is not a must see of Lima by sure and i visited during my second visit to Lima.

There was only one gallery open, which was on the independence movement. Everything else was closed. The staff kept rushing us through the one gallery toward the exit. We had hoped to spend an afternoon seeing pre-Columbian artifacts but we were done in 40 minutes.

Most of the museum is under restoration and there is very little that can be visited.
The gardens are beautiful and the entire museum is immaculate. The history part is very interesting.
Free admission and can be booked online.
You need a covid certificate and identification to be able to enter

This museum is technically open, but all the archeological and anthropological exhibits are closed. The only open exhibit is a tiny one about post-colonial times.

No one could explain to us why the majority of the museum was closed!

Definitely not worth the cab fare to get there

To be honest this is probably one, If not, the best museum of Peru.
I was amazed from I got into this museum to the last moment in it. It shows in summary peruvian history, I went with some friends and we spent the whole morning and we could've spent even more, keep in mind this If you want to.
The entrance ticket is quite cheap to show what they have.
Highly Recommended!!!!

This place is closed for the next couple of years. There is a small, maybe 8-room, museum attached which is currently open but not really worth the trip.

The myseum is closed for one year because of the preparations for bicentenario del Peru. In the meantime the Bolivar house can be seen and accessed through a lateral street where there is a small square. This part is very nice.

I really wish I could have seen this museum. It is run by Ruth Shady...and Archaeologist hero of mine...the discoverer of Caral.
We go back to Lima for two more days after being away for 3 weeks, Fingers crossed it will be open.

So disappointed to find a sign taped by the main door; closed by the mayor in April 2019.
No indication that it will open again. Ever?
Palace nextdoor was open, Bolivar residence. All signage in Spanish
