Caral is not the easiest site to visit but it is very worthy of a day trip from Lima. We hired a private guide and driver from a tour operator (Haku Tours).

I have mixed reviews on this. I took a tour that was supposed to be English and Spanish. Unfortunately no English was spoken. As a result, I was lucky enough to read the English verbiage on the boards but didn’t not get all the information...More

We took a tour with a government sponsored tour. This costs 150 soles (about $45) and includes transport from Lima to Caral, lunch at Caral, tour guides, and a stop in Vichama (another archeological site of a similar age to Caral). A lot of private...More

Carl solidifies that the Inca civilization was vast. This area is not on the mountains, so if you miss Cusco, due to altitude sickness, make sure you see this.

This is a site increasing in it's popularity due to it's historical significance. Dating back to before the Egyptian Pyramids, we were told the local town people from Caral (which the site is named after) are involved in the excavation and take pride in the...More

My partner loves history but this was disappointing. Not what I had anticipated and for the price of a tour and for the length of time to get here from Miraflores we really felt that we wasted a day of our trip to see this....More

This old remnants of “pyramids” was definitely a highlight of our city tour and the first stop. Of course one cannot expect it to be like Egypt but definitely worth having a look for the history’s sake!

Our family of four went to the Caral Ruins - remnants of the 5,000 year-old civilization north of Lima. Standing on the ground where our fellow Homo sapiens lived productive lives in a thriving commune 5,000 years ago was very special. The conjectured connections to...More

It took about 3 hours to get there (by car) from Lima and we stopped at Vichama (a similar newly discovered site). We had lunch there and probably spent a couple of hours walking around. So plan a day for the whole trip... More

I used Lima Tours for all my visits. They were at the airports with a sign with my name. They were at the hotels for the trans-ort and sometimes early. Lots of information and friendly. I'd use them again.
