I booked Bolivia/Peru hop from La Paz to Arequipa via Copacabana and Puno as I wanted safe and comfortable journeys with an informative guide and the convenience of Peru hop taking care of the organisation. I understood I would be paying more than the public services available for a similar route for this convenience. I had a few questions before booking and so decided to pop by the office in La Paz as was advertised online, on arriving at the office it was shut and we were told by other travellers that this may now be permanently closed? This was not as per the advertised opening hours online. I also emailed to confirm that my hostel was a pick up location to which it was confirmed yes. After booking I was told it wasn’t and would need to get a taxi to a pick up point. During my trip I did not see a Bolivia/Peru hop bus and all of my journeys were on alternative buses that were of equal or lower standard to a public bus (from experience of travelling on public buses in Argentina and Bolivia). The journeys and pick ups were generally as per the advertised timings and the guides told us how long the journeys were and when to get on and off. The assistance at the Bolivia/Peru border was also helpful and the optional tours available for an extra cost were a positive feature which removed the need to search for things to do, find reputable tour companies or barter with touts. The optional trips facilitated and recommended by Peru hop were well organised and made seeing the key sites easy. However, the buses/service offered on the website for the journeys between destinations and the convenience of not having to find public buses for each leg were the main reasons I chose Peru hop. It was great that Peru hop delivered on the latter but not delivering on the advertised offerings for the former is the reason why I feel misled and have given 3 stars. We were transported in a mini bus from the border to puno and the driving did not feel as safe as expected from the website - there was a lot of overtaking and late braking which meant I couldn’t relax as well as not having the space I was expecting on a large Peru hop bus. From Puno to Arequipa we were informed on pick up that the guide would not be travelling with us and the mini bus driver would be taking us to the bus terminal to get a public bus. There was little communication and the group was stood in the bus terminal for 30 minutes while our bus driver collected our public bus tickets. The Peru hop website mentions the questionable safety and comfort of public buses and therefore was surprised that they then put us on one. The feeling of being part of a group of travellers was therefore lost as we were all spread across a public bus. Other than the first trip, we did get hostel/hotel pick up and drop off however in all of our locations we could have asked the hostel/hotel to arrange a taxi and it would have been very cheap. But peru hop including this adds another element of convenience. Although I appreciate tourist numbers may still be below pre-pandemic levels and peru hop are adjusting their offering to suit booking numbers, there is no mention of minibuses or public buses on the website. If the possibility of travelling on minibuses or public buses was communicated up front on the website, I wouldn’t have felt misled and would have still happily used the service for the convenience and ease of using the booking system. But this wasn’t highlighted on the website and my experience did not reflect the service advertised on the Peru hop website and was a case of paying for something that was ‘not what it says on the tin’. I emailed Peru Hop with my concerns and was impressed that the owner gave a personal response explaining the situation and mentioned that there would be changes made. I think the service will be a lot better and worthy of 4/5 stars when Peru hop can guarantee that their own buses are used for all routes again when tourism numbers hopefully pick up again.

I would highly recommend this trip with our guide Diego. The trip was an all-day (4 am-12 pm) trip but visited so many great places. Paracas was a nice little town on the water with tons of dogs hanging out all over the place. We decided on the nature reserve due to the wind that day and the waters being rough. Still well worth seeing. We then traveled to the Desert Oasis and the pictures don't do it justice. The high sand dunes and the buggy rides were crazy. Sandboarding was also a crazy but exciting experience. I would definitely recommend this trip if you want a day full of adventure.

Cannot fault this service. Fantastic reps who helped provide advice on everything from tours, places to eat/drink and accommodation. The buses are very comfortable, even on long journeys. The best way to get around Peru!
