Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Everywhere you turn in South America you will stumble on a Mercado! Some are tackier than others, but this one was pretty good, no hard sell, just look & enjoy. But I did make the mistake of letting my wife loose on her own to explore the offers? As she does most of the luggage packing, she knows how to hide purchases! A good little market in a really cool location.

We walked the market a couple of times on our visit, Most everything was the basics you would see everywhere else. A lot of items are copies, things made in China, etc. It's worth maybe a 20-minute walk. Just on the edge of town. there is a large parking lot just past the market which is a great place to park if you want to visit town.

Great market to pick up blankets, tablecloths, jewelry and other items. Had fun talking to the owners and learning more. Nice atmosphere as it narrow but can get crowded

Like any place of interest, here, too, are the vendors all selling mostly the same stuff. But it is a nice distraction from all the ruins and there were a few interesting items - the man dressed up as a Inca King/warrior/Priest? in full garb and you get to take a picture with him for a few soles.

As at every single stop in our long journey in the routes of the "Valle Sagrado de los Incas", in Ollantaytambo it could not be different. The "Mercado Artesanal" is strategically located at the town's "Plaza Central", right in front of the main entrance to the "Parque Arqueológico de Ollantaytambo". So, no way to miss it! These markets generally sell the same kind of typical products, with small variations on the prices practiced. Some bargaining is expected and, if reasonable, will certainly be happily accepted in all of them. The "Mercado Artesanal" de Ollantaytambo is quite nice, vendors are not too pushy and one can easily walk around its aisles and stalls. However, my favorite markets in the "Valle Sagrado de los Incas" were "Manos de la Comunidad" (near Cusco), "Pisac Market" (in Pisac) and "Centro Textil Acllas" (in Chinchero). Enjoy!

The prices at this market were generally a bit better than most other markets & shops we came across in the Cusco / Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu area. There were 8 long structures with about 5-6 stalls on each side, though not all were open at the same time. Since we stayed in Ollantaytambo, we sometimes passed through at non-peak times (morning & evening) when many were closed. Afternoons were busier. I like shopping, but have my limits, so this was plenty large enough for me. Added to the local shops, we had plenty to see and entertain us, and plenty of choices for souvenirs.

I saw much of the same items at these markets as at others, but there was a variety here that you might not see elsewhere in one place. And since it's just outside the entrance to Ollantaytambo's largest ruins and not far from the center square, it's very convenient.

They certainly know where to put a market in this town - directly as you walk out of the ruins!! Fortunately, there was no hard sell so we could just have a look around

I liked the fact that you weren't being pressured into buying anything. I walked around the entire Mercardo in about 40 mins and it was interesting to see their souvenirs. I bought a tobacco pipe made out of bone for 5 soles.
