It's worth stopping in. Free entry. Not a huge number of items on display. But the historical nature of the building makes it worth a visit.

If you are in the neighborhood of Plaza Matriz , you may want to take a visit , just to see a colonial building where the first government used to rule and where the Constitution was signed. It is in front of the foundation square...More

There were a few exhibitions on when we went as well as the permanent rooms dedicated to the war with Paraguay. There is nothing in English but the Spanish is fairly simple and there are people in each room who can answer any questions.

Worth to see if you are around. Comparing to other countries, Uruguay is a quite young country, so, historic places are not to much different from the middle of the century's architecture. But still nice to visit

The exterior is undergoing repairs and is completely covered. Inside, there are two rooms which contain historical archives, a display of mate straws and a small football exhibit. Located in Plaza Matriz, it's convenient to visit if you're already in the area, but not worth...More

El Cabildo is a historic colonial building, perfectly preserved. It's on a very beautiful plaza which is also flanked by the Cathedral and the Ministry of Labor building, which is what is depicted here.
