Is a beautiful part of the city, we were fortunate enough that the day was georgeous! All around that area is amizing arquitecture and the plaza, it's a busy section of the capital, one block ahead is the bus stop.

Inevitably, everybody has to walk through the gate as the connection between the Old and the New City. Nothing special. The old photographs look a lot more interesting.

The gateway to the city that dates back to 1741. Interesting but nothing exciting. At the entrance to Plaza Independencia.

Is situated at one side of the Plaza Independencia (main plaza in Montevideo). Front of the door starts the Sarandi Street, which is a walking place, 2 blocks away from the Cathedral Matriz. Very nice place to have a nice walk into the old city.

This gate connects 18 de Julio Ave. and pedestrian Street Peatonal Sarandí, which takes you to Old Montevideo and the port.

This is one of the remaining wall of a Spanish Citadel which was destroyed in the early 1800's. It is located in the outer edge of Plaza Independencia.

Puerta de la Ciudadela is one of the few remaining parts of the wall that surrounded the oldest part of the city of Montevideo, the citadel, which was demolished in 1829. It is located by Plaza Independencia, in Ciudad Vieja.
