Description:

Sculptured through the workings of wind, water and vegetation, the Sigatoka...

Sculptured through the workings of wind, water and vegetation, the Sigatoka Sand Dunes stand out as one of Fiji's most unique wonders. In 1989, 390 acres of the Sigatoka Sand Dunes was established as Fiji's first National Park- The Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park. A key contributor to its protection is the archaeological treasures buried beneath the dune sands. These artefacts have contributed to the history of man's first arrival in Fiji. Today, evidence of this past continue to be unearthed by the wind. The Park is home to a unique Dune forest which is now home to a myriad of wildlife. Some notable inhabitants of this forest include the Fijian Swallow tail Butterfly, the fruit bats, the Goshawks, the giant stick insects and cryptic Pacific Boa. The National Park is a Fijian heritage, rich in both natural and cultural attributes.

A walk over very hot sand dunes to a wind swept beach. Interesting flora. Take provided sticks as there are wild dogs loose.(We only saw evidence of them) You need to be moderately fit but its well worth it.

If staying anywhere around Singatoka, is definitely a great thing to do. The National Park provides well maintained tracks, and the whole area is provides a great adventure, with a variety of walking situations and some excellent views. Some of the sandy slopes require a bit of effort to get up but the rewards are well worth it. Our advice... More

Wonderful walk through the birthplace of the Fijian culture. We spent the whole time by ourselves and a deserted beach is definitely the highlight.

A great walk with beautiful views if done at proper time of the day. Unfortunately with our timing we were there early afternoon, when the sea breeze was at it's strongest and the sand was unbearably hot. try to wear enclosed shoes if possible because being stuck halfway up a sand dune with burning feet and no shade is not... If you have the oomph to walk up these sand dunes then the view is definitely worth it! Spectacular sights down over the coastline.

We didn't know what to expect when we called in. It turns out to be a self guided walk for only F$10 each and it takes around 2 hours to complete. The route takes you past a village and on to vast sand dunes, which are steep and difficult to climb. However the climb is worth it just up see... More

We were on our honeymoon in Fiji, and the Sigatoka dunes were recommended by the guide book - I'm SO HAPPY THEY WERE!! It's quite a surreal experience: driving and hiking through tropical shrubbery along the Fijian coast overlooking the Pacific... only to come upon a humongous mound of sand!! The place was virtually deserted, so we had it all... More
