- LaurentCL2Alassio, Italy2,209 contributionsBunk'Art 1 is way better! If you have been to Bunk'Art 1 with the Porcelan bus, you will be disappointed as it is much smaller and less interesting. The main entrance is actually the nicest part and you don't need to pay before the ticket booth. If you can't go to Bunk'Art 1, then maybe it's interesting for you to see it but I highly recommend Bunk'Art 1 instead. Besides, there are more explanations in Bunk'Art 1.Visited December 2022Written 9 December 2022
- Mitch G3 contributionsPretty poorVery disjointed museum. The English translation on the information boards is very poorly done- it makes the sentences really hard to read and understand. There’s even one bit where they’ve translated “human flesh” into “meat” when describing torture methods- it makes it quite confusing. Also there’s no timeline here at all, it’s all very jumbled. You’ll be reading stuff about the 1930s, then the 1990s, then WW2, then WW1 and it’s hard to pick up the story. This could be a really good museum if more thought was put into it!Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 5 March 2023

The space is little , because is a bunker. But they have big peoblems with the staff there, they are rude and arrogant. we drove, we had to pay 10 euros to a man standing by the tunnel when we drove out. no receipt or sign / information on how much the parking cost.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 August 2023
- Janice TLondon, United Kingdom122 contributionsFabulous exhibition, poor organisationSuch a poor beginning due to lack of organisation. Arrived at 6.15pm still waiting to get in at 6.40, not because of big queue but the one and only cashier had disappeared leaving a sign saying ‘ be back soon’. Very poor , standing on a steep staircase with no air con ! The exhibition itself is thought provoking and disturbing. Seeing what the Albanian people dealt with up until very recently, at least 1990s. A must visit when coming to Tirana. Expect crowds and cramped conditionsVisited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 10 August 2023

Basic layout of exhibits, but if you read the detail it relays fascinating information on the Albanian police and security services over the last century, all in an underground nuclear bunker

Worth the visit. Gives a great overview of the terrible oppressive existence most people had under the communist era.

Disappointing information for English readers. Bad translation and overly complicated explanations could have been so so much better. A real pity as I found it quite fascinating.

Excellent museum right in the centre of town. It gives a very detailed (perhaps too much if its busy...), overview of the troubled history that many ordinary people had to live and suffer through.
To do the museum justice and read the majority of story boards will take well over an hour....
Quite aneye opener to see it all laid out in such graphic detail.
Certainly a "must" visit if your in Tirana.

Bunk’Art 2, is the second of two nuclear bunkers in Tirana that has recently transformed into an interactive museum and art space. Located on the main block of ministerial buildings in the city’s center, this underground shelter was hidden from the public eye until to its recent unveiling in 2015. Secretly built from 1981-86, beneath the Ministry of Internal Affairs along the city’s main boulevard, the underground structure was given the code name ‘Objekti Shtylla’ (Object Pole) in order to keep its construction undetected. This structure was held as a “great accomplishment” by the Communist regime. This bunker represents one of the last installments of Enver Hoxha’s paranoid ‘bunker project’ in Albania during the 1970s. The movement involved the creation of more than 700,000 bunkers across the country, and an even larger underground tunnel at the edge of the capital, which is now Bunk’Art 1.
Bunk’Art 2 serves as a museum and history to the many Albanians who suffered (and died) during the regime. It’s a must to visit if you want to dig into the dark past of Albania.

Definitely a must visit to get a complete picture of Albania’s 20c.history.
Very sobering and sad, but a well made story with all info in Albanian and English, audioguides available.

The ticket office doesn't accept payment by card.
We're not particularly surprised, nobody does. Even though... Even a museum?
The price for the whole family is 22.000 lek. We only have euros. "Ok, 22 euros then".
We have been dealing with this crooked "1 to 1" conversion system for 2 weeks now,and we don't mind paying a little extra to local activities.
But a museum, a place of cultural promotion, replying (literally) "we are not an exchange office"?
No, thank you.
Too bad, this was supposed to be the highlight of our stop in Tirana, but all the same, bye bye.

Thought provoking, and a must see to understand the regime that has shaped today’s Albania. Can get quite busy which could make this challenging if you’re claustrophobic.

My top tip would be that if vsitors are queing up to the top of the entrance steps, turn around and come back later! We visited on an early evening and joined a queue that ultimately lasted over 40 minutes to get into the attraction. Once inside it was super-cool being under the heart of the city in this top-secret bunker and many of the exhibitions and displays were well thought through and put together to give you a good insight into life under a communist dictator.
It felt like it was all a little too crowded in there at times, and it was difficult to fully read and enjoy the exhibits due to the number of people in quite tight spaces (it's a Nuclear bunker after all!). I'm not sure if we were just unlucky with timings, or the attraction needs a bit more info on busyness / crowd control. I would say that if there's no (or a very small) queue I suspect it would be a much better experience.
Alternatively, if you have time, head out to Bunk'Art 1 which is a half hour bus ride away, and a much bigger and more fascinating facility!

If you have visited BunkArt1, is it worth visiting BunkArt2 as well? Or do they show pretty much the same thing n different locations?
Thanks!

We didn’t get to BunkArt1, but I believe it’s different enough to warrant a visit, it’s close to Mount Dajti. You can also take a short taxi ride to Ceren Ishmet Shehu, a great restaurant nearby. Those 3 can fill up a good portion of your day.
