- kandcbuxtonWatford, United Kingdom44 contributionsA real eye opener on spying and eves droppingA real eye opener, the lengths that the Albanian Communist Party went to to spy on all its inhabitants. This is the house from which the spying and eves dropping was controlled. Entry 700 lek (they only take cash, in leks)Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 October 2023
- DukeHove, United Kingdom166 contributionsDark, but incredibly fascinatingWhoa! This place is eerie, but amazing with it. You must go! The building known as The House of Leaves (so called because of the clambering plant covering its facade) was a clinic but is now a Museum of Secret Surveillance. Apparently, the newest museum in Albania and educates you to one of the darkest periods of the country’s history. Located in the center of Tirana, in front of Orthodox Church; ‘The Resurrection of Christ’, and near the National Bank, the building was the Central Directorate of the Secret Service from 1944 to 1991. It leaves the tourist asking so many questions and wondering how locals must have been so scared and paranoid. Intriguing and informative and a place to definitely visit. It was in the Lonely Planet guide and the National Gallery of Art is permanently closed. I highly recommend this place a visitVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 October 2023
- Kelvin MMilan, Italy15 contributionsReminder of Albania's dark past.Certainly worth a visit. Tries to capture the invasiveness of the state and scale and darkness of how it operated. Lots of information and devices on display. We went mid morning, no queues and it's free to enterVisited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 May 2024
- B RussellCalgary, Canada60 contributionsDon’t miss this museumComprehensive, detailed, and diverse explanations of the government’s secret surveillance and repression of its citizens during the socialist/communist regime. Illuminating historic photos and films. Some of it unbelievable in terms of level of suspicion, surveillance, and brutality.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 4 June 2024

My downside is that it had repeated a lot of information we've learned at BlokArt2 hence the price of 700 lek felt a bit extortionate comparing to 400lek for BlokArt2Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 June 2024
- LLM_in_NJHoboken, New Jersey99 contributionsComprehensive Overview of Albanian Surveillance; Needs More English SignageFascinating and disturbing look at the surveillance done by the Albanian Secret Service over many decades in the 20th Century. Lots of artifacts including surveillance photos and videos, maps, the actual equipment etc. While there are descriptions in English, most of the artifacts were unlabeled. It would have been helpful to have more English signage. Also, if you already know about the period, it may not add a lot to your knowledge.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 July 2024

Frankly, I didn't spend much time here as I knew exactly what to expect. It's another showcase of communist paranoia I've visited in many ex communist countries all over eastern Europe.
Moreover, House of Leaves depicts the similar theme as the Bunkart 2 which is 5 min walk and I found it more interesting as it's in an original bunker.
However, for those not so familiar with this frantic topic, it's a good place to learn on spy and interrigation activities, some of them so imaginative that James Bond could envy.

I thought this museum was well done. It is an exploration of secret intel in Tirana. I thought it was a little pricy, and I have been to better, and the actual bunker is not very impressive, but I would recommend spending an hour or two here to learn about the history of Albania during their communist era.

It is in interesting museum, since it provides a lot of details on the Albanian secret service activities during communism time. However, they show lots of "instruments" and often the explanations are quite long. A little bit less would be more... Nonetheless, the museum is worth to visit.

A museum dedicated to the communist era in Albania. It provides a detailed account of the awful things that went on at that time. Apparently the building was originally a maternity hospital. It stands opposite the Orthodox Church in the centre of Tirana. Normally the entry fee is 700 lek but I struck lucky because the day I visited was National Monuments Day and entry was free.

Visited this site and literally most of the stuff is in Albanian - so the poignancy and efficacy of the sight is loss to non-Albanians as literally everything is written in the local language .
Secondly the entrance fee of €7 is ridiculously priced for a memorial of just a house which is way overpriced .
Pretty disappointed with this visit and was out in 20minutes .

This is an atmospheric museum, not dissimilar to the House of Terror in Budapest. It felt a bit limited in scope, covering a very specific aspect of history. If you are going to Bunk'Art, then personally I wouldn't bother because I think Bunk'Art covers the same material in much more interesting surroundings.

This is a most important account of Albania and very much helps to understand the recent history of this amazing nation. A must see! We left heart broken for the suffering of the past but can clearly see the opportunity for the present and future. And Albania has a great future and I encourage you to visit. It's been extraordinary!

È possibile avere la Giuda in italiano?
Written 20 November 2018
