Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This museum was small and difficult to find, and we were actually the only people there for most of our visit. But we found it charming, with lots of pictures, information, and artifacts about Sarajevo and its history and people. Our favorite part was a large model of the city in the center of the museum, visible from nearby and also from the balcony exhibits above. It shows the city in 1878, just before Austrians came and influenced the city. We were in the museum for about 45 minutes which was time enough to see everything and admire the city model, although we didn't read all of the information (lots of it available in English). We were glad that we stopped by.

In the heart of Baščaršija, you will find a construction with 6 cupolas. It is not obvious, but that's a Museum of Sarajevo. Kind guides will show you the history of Sarajevo and the region. You will get out rich with knowledge and very interesting stories and historical facts about Sarajevo and the Bosnian people. There are a lot of interesting and very old exhibits that witness the oldest periods of civilization in this area. You will be able to ask questions about each historical period and get all answers. I recommend you to visit this museum and enjoy it. Cheers!

An excellent museum! Right at the center of Sarajevo, it offers all the information on the history of this amazing city. The person in charge, who is an archaeologist, will happily guide you through the history paths and everyday life of Sarajevo and will answer all your questions. Spend some extra time in this museum and you will not regret it!

Staff was very friendly and the exhibition was well organized. 3 KM per person. Worth the money since it was small but touching experience. The explanation on the walls and history the place holds is astonishing.

Walking around the Old historic Center, I came across the signage about this museum. The first door was not opened and after 3 attempts, I finally found the right entrance. The entrance fee is 3 Bosnian Marks per person.
There are 2 floors of exhibits showing the history and development of Sarajevo as a city. Explanations of the exhibits are both in local language and in English.
Exhibits include artifacts found in the area, old tools, jewelries, traditional clothes, manuscripts, weapons, etc. What I like best in this museum is small version of the buildings and streets of the Historic Center.
Note that taking pictures inside this attraction is not allowed.

Sarajevo has a rich and fascinating history but currently no single museum covers it all*. There are 3 museums that between them explain the major periods and events:
Brusa Bezistan Museum - from antiquity through the Ottoman period to Austro-Hungarian rule;
1878-1918 Museum (aka Muzej Sarajevo) - the Austro-Hungarian period, and the event that ignited World War I;
Sarajevo History Museum - 20th Century post-WWI, particularly the 1990s war (it also provides an overview of earlier periods).
I recommend them all but of course you can pick and choose. The entry fees are modest.
* The National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina may cover the whole span of Sarajevo's history (I don't know) but it is shut indefinitely

one of the smallest museum in Sarajevo, so hidden that even 1/2 of their citizens do not know of its existence. Nicely settled in a heart of Old City, has 3 closed and 1 open main entrance which makes you think that this one is closed all the time, like major museum of the City, Zemaljski Muzej. So, enter from Abadžiluk 10 entrance and enjoy.
There is a lot to see, from stone age to WWI, a lot of artefacts and fine text to read and learn about this place on Earth, all in 20-45 minutes.
Worth time to visit, pay as 3KM per person which is around 1.5 euros.

Apart from being located in the heart of the old city and being easily accessible and well organised, this museum gives you a fantastic overview of the rich and complex history of the area from neolithic up to our days in a relatively small place.
If it's your first time in Sarajevo, I would suggest that you start with this museum; after that, it will be easier to approach other museums, such as the Historical museum, or places like Svrzo's house, mosques and churches, or even Ilidza and Vrelo Bosne and add more information to your records.
