Here no flashy multimedia spectacle, but items brought by ordinary citizens of Sarajevo illustrating their hardships and creativity during the 4-year Siege of the city in the 1990s. They survived the horror and atrocities committed by Bosnian Serb army troops. What I missed is context....More

A difficult subject handled well. With more tourism and traffic clearly with more resources, the curatorial staff could expand on the subject as it was clear they handle the tragic subject with sensitivity and the place tells a story. Well worth visiting.

The Historical Museum is a small but worthwhile place to visit while in Sarajevo. It's right next to the National Museum so it makes sense to do the two together. On the ground floor, there are some paintings and a small exhibit about the war....More

It is always hard to describe siege of one city using limited space, but I believe that curators of this museum were successfull in thiss endevour. One can get impression on what was happening during the siege.

If you visit Sarajevo, support the cultural institution by visiting and donating as they are not supported by the government and many remain closed. This museum had a lot of significant projects on view and the building is gorgeous (despite its ruin) and contains really...More

Entrance fee for us was 7km. There are a few rooms and corridors dedicated to the war, and the exhibits are really interesting. It isn’t super interactive, so definitely more of an adult museum. I especially liked the before and after photographs on the ground...More

Small but interesting museum with powerful displays of the scars from the war... cannot miss all the before/after photos on the wall. The entrance is disconcerting with the broken stairs, but don't let this turn you away. Entry is cheap and you will not forget...More

A lot of stone slabs and pieces from 100-300 AD when the Greeks and Romans occupied the area. Good collection of stuffed animals and insects which children would find interesting. Missed things to do with the Ottoman Empire and no cafe or shop. Location is...More

It is not in the center of the city, but still quite close to it. You can really see the war and traumas that people went through. The Museum offers some real insight in history.

Amazing exhibition of artefacts and photographic accounts of the siege of Sarajevo. Also other exhibitions worth seeing, especially the before and after photos by Jim Marshall.
