Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Situated on the corner of two busy streets (Opalchenska and Pirotska) and surrounded by a park, this is one of the more impresive modern era Bulgarian churches. Built around 1900, the overall impression is of a wealthy city church, well proportioned and a highly decorated interior.
From the outside, the ceramic frieze of stylised birds and vines that runs around the building just under the eaves is particularly attractive. The interior is dramatic, the walls and the vaults are painted and there is a central lantern tower. The pulpit and the screen are elaborately carved and the latter has some good quality icons.
A little bit away from the other tourist sites in the centre of Sofia, but definitely worth a visit. The nearest metro station is Opalchenska.

An attractive and distinctive facade as a first view makes here a very worthwhile visit. Nestled in a pleasant greenery surrounded by trees the horizontal patterns of light and dark are impressive.
Said to be the second largest church in Sofia, this was apparent when we moved inside. A fine space opens up, all the way to the altar area.
A gorgeous iconastasis is to be gazed at, splendid carved ornateness. Similar beauty adorns the pulpit.
Throughout is embellished with marvellous frescoes, including the inside of arches and the glorious domes.

A very special experience as so very different to other types of churches with wonderful gold covered wall hangings, paintings and ornaments adorned every corner of this magnificent structure.

Situated in a leafy park (a good place for a rest from sightseeing, or you could stop off at one of the nearby cafes/restaurants). On the corner of two wide streets: Opalchenska and Pirotska, and a short walk from the shopping Mall of Sofia. The nearest Metro is Opalchenska, trams run by it, or you can easily walk from the centre of Sofia.
This is a large church with a highly decorated interior, in very good repair, and definitely worth a visit. It was nearly empty when we visited, so we were able to sit and appreciate the quiet.
Outside there is an unusual tiled frieze (birds and grapevines) that runs around the building under the eaves. Inside has beautifully carved screens with icons. A dramatic space - very ornate, with beautifully painted arches and domes.

Nice and small church not far from the center of Sofia. With a big garden where people come with their dogs.
