It is very beautiful during winter time when the whole building is hidden in the snow. Moreover the sacredess of the place is easily felt once you enter the doors. If you hike the mountain, it is great place to stop by and explore.

We force to Dragalevtsi Monastery after we went to Boyana Church and it was snowing

We parked below the monastery and finished the trip with a trek through the forest , following some snow covered paths that locals had been walking through

It took us about 20 minutes to reach the monastery and the trip was worth it !!!

Quiet , peace and a wonderful landscape ...

A highly recommended experience , specially under the snow !!!!

The Dragalevtsi Monastery is not far from the capital Sofia, in the pretty residential neighborhood of Dragalevtsi, at the foot of the Vitosha mountain. It has a beautiful garden and a peaceful church were you can light candles. The buildings are well maintained and occupied by nuns but you don't see anybody around. It is very peaceful, in the middle of a big forest full of the songs of birds. Near the monastery there is a nice picnic area and a good car park. In the week end it can get busy but we went during the week and it was quiet. After the visit to the monastery you can go up the Vitosha mountain, the road is good and the ride very beautiful. When you get to the top you can park and continue for a walk in magnificent nature. There is the Aleko Hut were you can rest and have a coffee if you want.

A great way to get out of the city, see some history, enjoy some of the local culture. Very peaceful. I visited in the summer and there weren't many people there at all. There was a baptism I think going on at the time so I was respectful and waited, but everyone was courteous and polite.

Nice walk up from the 93 bus stop, which runs from Vitosha Metro station. Since it is in the Vitosha Mountain National Park, visitors might like to walk further up the mountains along the paths through the trees

I drove (rental car) up to the monastery from a hotel in the south of the city. Took 15 mins.
Easy to find with google maps!
There's a car park, with a short walk down a path to the entrance. Walked round the back of the monastery to find the open entrance. No-one else inside except one Orthodox nun putting flowers by the icons.
Sat down for a contemplative half-hour, and undisturbed.
Outside there's a structure with 3 large bells in it.
You can buy various items related to the monastery inside, including a leaflet about the history of the place.
Best views of Sofia are not from the monastery itself but at a stopping place just a couple of minutes down the mountain.

Interesting monastery with unique church. It is situated in Vitosha mountain, just a step away from the big city. Can be accessed easily on foot and by car.

Dragalevtsi monastery is a favorite place to visit with kids since it's very easy to reach from the bus stop of Dragalevtsi residential area. Just walk along the road and in 20-30 minutes you are there. Lovely nature, friendly people at the monastery. On the way back - have lunch or dinner on one of the several restaurants on Dragalevtsi square - all of them cook absolutely delicious food!

It was a rainy Monday on the mountain and not too much visible so decided to call in here. It was perfect as it was so peaceful and calm only the 4 of us visiting.
We spotted a fire salamander on the path going up to the monastery and that added to the pleasure. The only other being there was a nun trying to remove candle wax. There is no charge and you are left to look and wander. It is very small but beautiful!
