Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This museum has some interesting exhibits (like the exhibition of ancient tombs jewelry), but in general it requires to be updated and renovated to become more interesting and engaging.
In my opinion, it is only number three museum in Chisinau as of 2021 (behind Ethnography Museum and Art Museum), so can be missed in favor of two others which are clearly better.

Peaceful musem with quite basic things to see. Best part was in the second floor. Seems there has been not so much money to create things here. Stll worth visiting.

Admission is very cheap but its content does not meet the expectations. Some informations are translated into English but very few. It's quite oldfashioned and the way objects are exposed is not attractive.

The museum is very cheap, informative and nice to visit, not too big. We spent about 1,5 hours but could have stayed longer. The history of Moldova is really interesting!

A must do activity for anyone who is interested in history.
You will find plenty of information and artefacts since prehistoric times until the recent years, especially about the occupation of Moldova by the Soviets.
Another very interesting museum is the Military Museum where one can learn by the mistakes done in the past. The Soviet Occupation on Moldova section is heart breaking but without knowing what happened we might take part of the repetition of the history, not doing anything anything about that, being as guilty as the aggressors.
I recommend getting a guide in case you don't read and speak Romanian or Russian

There was literally nothing of interest in the museum. Moldovan history would have been interesting, but the only thing this museum had was small collections of seemingly randomly organized small objects from different periods. As a foreigner, I was also forced to buy a ticket to the "special exhibition", which to be honest was inferior to what Grade 5 school children put together. When I said I did not want to see the "special exhibition", I was told that all foreigners must buy a ticket for it ! To top things off, I was then yelled at by the ticket office lady upon leaving because I had seen everything in the museum in less than 30 minutes (because there was nothing there to see !). Terrible museum with abysmal treatment of visitors. Please do not waste your time there.

Given the limited time I had I decided to visit this museum.
I was very happy with my choice as the museum is very interesting containing a lot of objects. Not only historical objects but also cultural objects.
The building needs some maintenance anyway.

This museum is very near the National Art Museum so a visit to both could be done easily. It cost MDL 10 to enter plus MDL 15 to take photographs. The interior of the building is very grand and ornate and worth visiting in its own right. Many exhibits have English explanations. Do not miss the Treasury room, and the display about repression during the Soviet period, which are down the stairs that go to the gents toilet. Also do not miss the huge diorama which is behind the entrance hall

A series of rooms leads from Moldovan pre-history through the end of WWII, with a surprisingly robust collection of items from the Iron Age, Bronze Age and Roman era - the area was home to was a thriving civilization! The jewelry display on the lower level is worth a viewing, with ancient pieces and coins up through the 15th century or so. Also on that level is a temporary exhibit on Moldovans sent to the Gulags. Overall, the collection in this museum is pretty impressive, if generally small. Signage is limited but with English translations.
