Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Like others, we weren't here for a performance, but did take a photo or two of the building from the outside.
It's very close to the Parliament and Presidential building, so worth a quick look if you're in the city. Also a short walk, or bus ride from the centre.

The Chişinău National Opera, the national opera company of Moldova, was founded in the mid-1940s and became a professional company in 1956. There's so beautiful place

We had heard great things about the quality of the Chisinau ballet and looked up its program online. We were lucky to catch a performance of the ballet Don Quijote. In true Soviet style, the facade, dilapidated surroundings, we're all around, and the unwelcoming personal, let alone the location of the ticket office at the bottom corner of the entrance staircase, make it at first a hard sell for the average western visitor. Once inside, the tables turn. The orchestra is excellent and the ballet performance was world class. Set, choreography and quality of the dancers was incredible. Although the props and the lights are basic, the mastery and discipline of the dancers was something that western companies lack. This particular performance won the hearts of the mostly Russian speaking and very critical audience that ended up in a standing ovation. Picket prices were about US$6 for a top seat. Don't miss this experience should you be in town during the season.

I went and saw an opera performed here and was able to easily get a ticket, check my coat, and get to my seat without needing to know any Moldovan. Very good prices - 80 lei for most seats and only 100 lei for the nicest ones. The venue doesn't look like much from outside but is impressive once you make it in. Comfortable seats, which was important for a three hour performance.

Unfortunately there weren't any opera productions showing when I visited in late October. As such I had to be content with just seeing the exterior of this fairly ordinary looking concrete Opera House. A quick stop as you walk down the boulevard Stefan cel Mare is probably sufficient to see the exterior.

We did not experience the opera but stopped outside the building take pictures by the "I love Chisinau" sign. It is a low-key building that is worth seeing if you anywhere near the centre.

My first theatrical performance was here in Chisinau and it was memorable. The venue was well attended as theater is part of Eastern European culture. It's very inexpensive. I recommend visitors to attend a performance.

I have seen ballet Spartacus here; good but really too old fashioned. But cheap: 10 euro for a top seat!

We went with our young children to see The Nutcracker (Spărgătorul De Nuci). The setting is a lovely old theatre in the heart of Chisinau - it could be 1960 inside if you did not see the appearance of the audience. It was our families first ballet experience and it was a nice experience. I think it reaffirmed that ballet is an art you either love or simply appreciate. Nonetheless, it was, in my amateur opinion, very well delivered. The theatre was full which added to atmosphere and the price was some 10% of that in London so certainly a pleasant evening out. Chisinau has a growing range of lovely places to eat and a 6pm start time allows for eating post performance.

The building is impressive enough, but it becomes memorable when you attend a life performance here. Operas are well attended and it is fun to see the Moldavians attend them.... interestingly enough, mostly women, in small groups, dressed up, and seemingly really enjoying the performances. There is still a tradition of subsidizing fine arts - the productions are impressive.
