This experience is built for westerners who have never been in any soviet era apartment. Having lived and visited soviet era apartments for free my whole life this is a complete waste of money and a bit of a joke. The guide I had, Bogdan, was rude and felt very very threatened by my knowledge of 20th century Eastern European history. I suspect he also was threatened since I spoke Russian. It was interesting that it was like a time capsule but 30€ to visit a Soviet apartment is a waste of money at best. Save your money! There’s a communist museum with a replica apartment just like this in Brasov and it costs only a fraction. Avoid, unless you like wasting money.

I am fascinated by the legacy of Communism in "Eastern Bloc" countries, having grown up in the Cold War in the West and also realizing that we were also subject to a form of propaganda in the "Free World" about what life was really like behind the Iron Curtain. This tour provides a glimpse into that world, with hands on artifacts in a "restored" apartment from 1980s Bucharest, perhaps the most difficult and deprived era of the Communist period in Romania. The museum is the brain child of some local students of history, and in fact the apartment itself was the dwelling of one of the students' grandparents - so there is passion in this project. We found the conversation and reflective discussion on the Communist era more rewarding than the artifacts themselves. The only reason I do not give this attraction a full 5/5 is because I believe they have room for improvement - for example perhaps some "real life" accounts from people who actually lived in that era (the students themselves are mostly too young to have first hand recollections). It is a very new attraction and it is already an excellent idea, and it will get even better. Well done Ferestroika and keep up the good work!

A really intimate, and beautiful tour through Communism in Romania. I've never experienced an interactive tour like this. Andrei was an awesome guide through the communist house too, and there's many options for immersive experiences throughout. You step into the flat and you really feel like you are in the 1980s again. Thanks to Raluca and all the team for putting together something so incredible!

This was one of our favourite experiences during our visit to Bucharest. Our guide was very friendly and had so much fascinating history to share. The apartment is like a time capsule, and visiting it provided lots of insight into day-to-day life during Romania's communist period. This is one of the most interesting and personal museum experiences I've visited about the history of communism in Europe.

We went on this tour in August 2022. Our guide was Bogdan. The tour is of the 'museum' which is an apartment of a reasonably well off and well placed family living under communism in the 1980s. Everything is kept as it was and this gives you a surprisingly informative glimpse of life as it was then. Bogdan was an Excellent guide. We lived the concept and the tour.. it is focused and very interesting. I couldn't help but compare the similarities of the dining ('clean') room with similar rooms in 1960s New Zealand.🤣🤣🤣. Great tour well worth doing

A museum like no other - set in the 1980's the flat brings to life conditions in Bucharest but beyond the visual, it is brought to life by a brilliant guide who answers frankly (and from a. position of knowledge) on any subject of that period and modern day. It is a must see for travellers and for overseas people living in Bucharest.

The most interesting thing about Ferestroika is that is not in fact a museum, but a whole experience, where you can see/hear/smell/touch the exhibits. Alex's vivid way of narration (well, rather conversation) gave us the opportunity to learn more about the communist regime period and express our questions, which he answered patiently. Everything was perfectly organized. Thank you for this experience.

What a great experience! This is not a museum like any other, but a time machine that lets you step into the late years of Communism and immerse yourself in the home of a real family. And unlike other museums where the exhibits are behind glass, this is one that you experience through touching, sitting, trying, smelling, and feeling. Alex was a terrific and well informed guide and the attention to detail, even the Steampunk TV that displays vintage video, is impressive. Well worth the visit for anyone interested in history.

Want to know & feel how a Bucharestean family lived during the communist period? Look no more, and book a time-traveling session at Ferestroika.
A highly enjoyable and enlightening peek into the daily life of a Romanian family under Ceausescu, and a well-documented, interactive, non-partisan experience that helps understand its legacy on present day Romania.
Highly recommended.
