Was a pleasure to visit the Jewish museum of Bucharest! It is in an old synagogue that has magic by itself. A beautiful mix of art, history, antiques and a lot of learning. 100 recommended if u are interested in Jewish history! =]

It is a salutory lesson to read about the decimation of the Jewish population in Roumania,Of the pre war 165000 only about 27500 survived.Most of these emigrated after the war leaving only 4000 trmaining,This beautiful synagogue tells the sad story of this and the highlights of the Jewish communirt in Roumania in the 19th and early 20th Century.Admission is free and this is a must see/

With the world in turmoil and certain entities denying the Holocaust, it is important for the world not to forget what happened to European Jews. This museum is not the glitz of American (or even Berlin) museums but is authentic and respectful and housed in a former working synagogue. If this subject matter is of interest, do visit the other synagogues and also the newly installed Holocaust memorial that honors Jews and Romans that were murdered during WWII. For an uplifting experience take a tour of the Yiddish Theatre.

This synagogue, no longer used for religious services, has been converted into the museum of the Romanian Jewish experience. It is well done and informative, and the visitor learns a lot about a world, alas, long gone.

One of the highlights of Bucharest. Moving tour. Beautiful building with very pretty ceiling. We got an unscheduled tour from one of the small number of Jewish people remaining in Bucharest, which made it feel more personal than most museums. The museum focuses more on Jewish contributions to Romanian society rather that on the Holocust. This makes a nice change from a lot of Jewish museums in other cities. (There is also a different museum focusing on the Holocust elsewhere in Bucharest.)

We had a very nice time visiting this museum. There are some original painting and lot of information about the Jewish history. Very well organised.

When I got to the museum I saw a sign with the opening hours and noticed that it was already too late. However, the door was still opened and I saw some people inside the synagogue so I asked myself: "Why not just go and ask if I can visit the museum, there might still be a chance?". So I went in and approached what looked like a staff member when from the back a guard came and quite rudely asked me what I want there. I then kindly explained him I've just wanted to ask whether there's still any possibility to visit the museum since I saw some people inside. Then the staff member came out, too, and both of them started quite impolitely telling me I'm a troublemaker, but at the same time writing down my personal data and telling me I could see the museum. However, they went on treating me as if I was an intruder so I decided to kindly thank them for their efforts and leave.
I'm aware they have opening hours but in many places in Romania I've noticed they are kind of lose and sometimes there's still a possibility to enter a place even later. However, I wish they would have just told me in a nice manner and asked me to come back the next day.
I'm sure it's a very interesting museum and I'd like to see it if I come back to Bucharest one day. That's why I don't want to give a negative rating.

small but interesting, and with english signs, which are rare in Romania, and a great staff with good english who will answer any question, in a lovely synagogue

The museum is inside an old synagogue that is no longer in use as a place of prayer. Along the walls is a history of the Romanian Jewish community, A lot of it is blown up copies of newspapers and letters. some is translated into English, but most is not, but it still is possible to understand from the photographs and the brief summaries in English

Beautiful for learning about Jewish life in Romania, beautiful for admiring the exquisite paintings from the first floor, some of the world's famous Jewish artists like Victor Brauner and Marcel Iancu.
