- Thomas KCopenhagen, Denmark847 contributionsThis museum is the home of several famous paintings including the 4 seasons by Brueghel painted 400 years agoMuseum has 2 main collections, the Romanian art in 1 wing and the rest of Europe in another wing of the museum. Entry is about 8€ and more if they also have special show of art. The museum have an important collection of old masters including Rubens, Rembrandt, El Greco and Brueghel. They have a small museum shop.Visited February 2023Travelled soloWritten 5 February 2023
- MKTBETopeka, Kansas3,048 contributionsRomanian National Art Treasures! The National Museum of Art of Romania is a large museum located in the former Royal Palace in Revolution Square. There is so much Romanian history in the surrounding neighborhood and in the museum palace itself. The museum features collections of medieval and modern Romanian art, as well as the international collection assembled by the Romanian royal family. Many of the paintings were from King Carol I personal collection. The art is exceptional and is displayed elegantly in the beautiful royal palace. We spent hours enjoying the magnificent Romanian National Museum of Art. Our only disappointment was with the museum staff. They were in no way helpful with inquiries, refused brochures, and were so very rude and unfriendly. It is very sad when you are not able to kindly share the history of your country with visitors.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 March 2023
- JoeBudapest, Hungary3,376 contributionsNot too badWas ok. The building itself is truly fantastic with phenomenal architecture. The exhibitions are ok. Some are insightful and fun, and others are just weird. The futuristic one is cool, as is the graffiti stairs. The statue storeroom is surreal. Staff a little brusque and standoffish. And a little overpriced. Entrance is hard to find.Visited July 2023Travelled soloWritten 13 July 2023

There is, first of all, something dodgy about a national gallery that does not accept credit cart. The lady at the counter simply send me back outside for a bank with 'only cash'. She was even rude in her tone. So I went out into the scorching heat (35 degrees celsius) to find a bank. I did and went back to the European Gallery and asked for a ticket. I paid and tried to enter the galleries, but then I was told by two other employees that my ticket was for the Romanian Gallery, three doors down, which I did not understand, since the lady at the ticket counter mentioned nothing about different tickets for different galleries.
When I went back down and said that I had also come to see specific painters (Brueghel, El Greco, Rembrandt etc.) in the European Gallery, she told me that the second floor was closed (maybe that's why she gave me a ticket for the Romanian Gallery). I asked why she hadn't told me before I bought the ticket, to which she had no answer, further she did not speak sufficient English, neither did anybody else, to explain the problem or the ticket rules.
So I went over to the Romanian Gallery. A lot of the exhibition was a bit stale, however, there were beautiful works by Tuculescu, Mützner, Eder and especially Dobromir's frescos were impressive. This review might reach 1,5 stars because of those frescos. But guess what, parts of the modern section was closed here also.
I went to the ground floor to see a special exhibition of a Romanian painter, but there I was told that my ticket was only for the permanent collection (even though it was in the same building (!!)). I admitted defeat and walk out.
Never have I encountered such a complex ticket system, so poor explanation of same, and almost rude service. Upon reading up on the system on their website, I found out that she even overcharged my ticket. There was no advertisement at the museum that the exhibitions were closed and no information given at the counter.
Maybe the galleries contain hidden treasures, but how to found out when they are closed, or made inaccesible by a Kafkasque system of ticket rules, that the employees do not even attempt to make you aware of, let alone explain?

An excellent museum in three sections and all three are worth a visit. The medieval Icons, Orthodox Church items and embroideries were incredibly beautiful and it is rare to see so many beautiful Orthodox works of art together in one place. The middle section of the Museum building allows you to visit several of the reception rooms from when this building was the Royal Palace.

A must-see for art lovers! The museum showcases a rich and diverse collection of Romanian and European art, from medieval to modern times. I was especially impressed by the works of Constantin Brâncuși and El Greco.

We paid to see the Romanian display, the 1st floor is full of church art , which i would rather see in situ. So advise to start on the 2nd floor.
I was expecting more painting of Romania.
A few gems ,but sorry ,not a patch on london galleries.

is there a place to rent a bicycle
Mariana E
Bucharest12 contributions
As far as I know there are several renting centers in Bucharest. The renting service is available starting spring season (1st of April usually). I could also suggest "I'Velo" .There are three rental centers in Bucharest, near the green areas (Parks) of the city : Herastrau Park - entrance Charles de Gaulle, the Arc de Triumph and Tineretului Park, entrance George Sincai.
The bikes can be rented daily, between 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Friday (last rental at 18: 00) and between the hours 10:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (the last rent at 18.00). I'Velo bikes can be rented, both for a fee, and free. Young people under 16 y.o and retired people can rent bicycles for free, based on student booklet, respectively pension bead. The others have to pay 4 lei (less than 2 $) to rent a bike for an hour and 15 lei ( less about 4$) for 24 hours ( according to the last year rates).
Unfortunately lanes for cyclists are quite a few but you are welcome to discover places in Bucharest whatever transportation means you'll use.
