This is a beautiful and historic place, I was so happy to see it and at the same time, it was a bit sad to be there as I remember the news from a while ago. There is a spirit in this square that fills you up and never let go. I am sure you will keep it with you... More

Maybe at that place you could feel the real Ukrainian soul. This place saw a lot of revolutions and the spirit of independence is in the air

It was just a short distanced walk from my hotel, the Intercontinental. It was a pleasant day to go for a walk and enjoy the scenery. However, there was a tragic historical incident here just a few years ago so paying respects to the casualties is also a must. You will see the names of the Fallen along the side... More

At the end of Khreshchatyk is Independence Square. All these cities that broke away from the Soviet bloc have one I think we still expect people to be running around waving flags and carrying Kalashnikovs. Tick it off on your list. I got grabbed by a 6ft Panda and a Cat. Bizarre.

It is central square of Kiev when always every time something is happening. It is also located on main street- Khreshchatyk Street. Before you visit it please read about history of that place. It is quite complicated. There are many people there that want to you sell something or offering pictures with birds. Don't use it.

My accomodation is just off Maidan Nezalezhnosti so I past through this square several times during my stay in Kiev. On one hand, Maidan Nezalezhnosti is grand and flaked on most sides with beautiful ornate buildings. It also has much historical significance because as Kiev's central square it is the place for political rallies and several important events were held... More

Nice central square with some very ornate beautiful buildings. Not a place to relax as it has loud traffic, lots of crowds and few eateries but it really is a slice of history given that the Orange Revolution took place here. We really enjoyed it as a historic site, not as a 'sight' if you get my meaning. Every visitor... More
