Reserve a full day, as this place is huge. Affordable ticket prices and not so many tourists, the silence and the tranquillity you find here is more than welcomed after a few days of wondering around the city.

The churches here are beautiful! The caves are the most interesting part of this place. You'll see locals kissing and crying the coffins where there are mummified remains of "saints." We took a tour of the caves, and were glad we did because it was...More

A large location with plenty to see, whether it's the beautiful overground churches or the atmospheric underground caves. It's slightly odd to see the touristic nature of the caves, etc, but it's still a worthwhile excursion.

Everywhere you look it is a spectacular photo op. The golden onion domes are beautiful as are the other buildings. There are 150-200 monks still here. The caves were narrow and dark - not for the claustrophobic. You can buy a candle or use the...More

Such a unique experience. But be prepared, you have to walk down a huge hill and back up after. You walk through tight tunnels holding a candle because it’s dark. I have claustrophobia and did not have a problem. Highly recommend!
