A fantastic tour and certainly worth a visit. We were so lucky to get a chance to climb Mother Russia to the top and the views were amazing. The museum is fantastic and I cannot recommend this enough!

This stainless steel statue stands 62 m tall upon the museum building with the overall structure measuring 102 m. You can see it from many places in Kiev but the most amazing view is from the other side of river Dnieper. Please pay attention that shield of the monument is still showing the state emblem of the Soviet Union. You can visit... More

I would say the grandest architectural legacy of Soviet Union in Kiev. A lot of people (and public politicians too) wants to get rid of many soviet symbols there (museum and outdoors), including the coat of arms on the shield. So chances are that this monument sees its last days in the original state.

A gigantic Sovie-era monument, Motherland stood over the Museum of The History of Ukraine in World War II. The monument is so large that one can see it from afar coming over the bridge from the airport. Getting to the monument and the museum requires about a 30-min walk from Maidan Nezalezhnosti. It is close to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra monastery... More

We loved Rodina Mat, the Mother of Kyiv. It is a huge austere statue towering over the city surrounded by beautiful parkland and an eclectic collection of Sovietesque art sculptures and military monuments. You can walk from the city center in about an hour and a lot of it is through a lovely park. The views are amazing from Roding... More

Typical Soviet era monument. Much history here. The museum gives a bit of a different view than what most provincial Americans tend to think. Its good to see things from a different perspective and learn from other cultures.

I visited this monument the last night at Kiev. The weather was rainy during the day so there were clouds and some fog which made the place even more atmospheric. I totally recommend it as a must see sightseeing if yoy are visiting Kiev.

The museum was built in soviet times and has really interesting architecture which reflects soviet aesthetics. There are two halls which take you through the war in chronological order showing contributions of soviet citizens to the war efforts. There are also smaller exhibits about the Afghan War. Definitely worth a visit, particularly in the winter. If you will take photos,... More
