Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This church had one of those serene pleasant atmospheres. Many churches lose that to commercial concerns or modernisation, not this one. Very nice. What was excellent about Panamanian churches was free to enter, unlike so many of its European counterparts.

Just the thought that in the 1600s, they were able to remove and transport each and every stone of this baroque Mercedarian cathedral from its original location in the Old Quarter (first city of Panama) to the current location in Casco Viejo now, is overwhelming.
In addition, they brought the original roof rafters' structure along with the original wooden columns as well! Can you imagine the old-growth wood from centuries ago and they are still intact and holding this incredible cathedral's roof structure in place today

Lots of history in this church and it was probably our favorite that we visited. It still has much of the original structure including the wood beams. Also they have a "black Jesus" and our guide told us the story of the black Jesus which is amazing and what people do each year in honor of him. There are also the bones of Saints which have been conserved. All in all it was one of the best stops in old town.

One of Casco Viejo's oldest buildings. This church dates back to 1680 and was originally situated in Panama Viejo which is now a ruin after it was destroyed by the pirate Henry Morgan. The church was moved stone by stone to the current site.

This church is small and can be found in the old town of Panama City. It is a beautiful little church and a great stop off point to have a look around to appreciate the local history.

Very nicely renovated and air-conditioned church. Worth a visit. Slow down and the more time spend in the church the more the beauty will be discovered

Great church that was a bit under restoration. The church as a small gift shop and we found a few rosaries for family members. The church sold us a brochure but only in Spanish and no English versions. I loved the simplicity of this church.

The attractive and historical Iglesia de La Merced dates to 1673, with a facade that was transferred brick-by-brick from a former church in Panama Viejo destroyed during Morgan's raid. The current re-modelling does not detract from the serenity and beauty of the church's interior.

The history of the Church is fascinating. We spent 30 minutes inside and an hour would have been better. Not to be missed.
