Sandy Bay is worth the trip if you can get someone else to do the driving. The roads on St Helena are steep and narrow and then you have the road to Sandy Bay which is something else.

We arrived on a cruise ship. Soon you may be able to fly to St Helena which will make it much more accessible to travelers. For us, it was really difficult to find a tour guide in a 4X4 to take us around the island...More

the black beach of the island, you cant really swim here but having a great sunday curry next to the beach was really nice walking along the beach and seeing all the amazing wild life was great

The access to the beach realy needs a 4x4 unless you are prepared to walk quite a distance from the nearest paved road. The beach is not particularly beautiful but is remarkable as being a nesting site for turtles, Unfortunately we visited at the time...More

You will need a 4x4 to get here, particularly the last ridge but the bay is lovely although you can't swim - a paddle in the sea only. Bbq's in place to make the trip worthwhile and remnants of the colonial past.
