    Wonderful
Wonderful excursion from Skopje. We took a taxi (20 euro) and then a shor walk to the boats. For 10 euro pp we took a boat trip through the canyon, and got the chance to visit the cave, on foot. Steep and not advisable to elderly people.

    Super gorgeous Matka Canyon
I will truly love to revisit this place. It has the wow factor. So much to see and do there including Matka lake tour, restaurants and a church. 2 thumbs up Macedonia for keeping it in such excellent condition. I love how some of the rocks were cut out so that you have small spaces to walk through to get to the lake. There is nothing I don't like about Matka canyon. There is also a public washroom on site. I recommend 100%.

    Wonderful canyon
Matka Canyon is a must-see attraction if you are traveling near Skopje. It is possible to walk down the canyon, as the path is well maintained. But you can also take a boat ride as we did. The trip takes about one hour for both directions including the visit of the Vrelo cave. You have 20 minutes at your disposal to visit the cave, which is quite enough. The cave is very beautiful, but good footwear (not sandals) is required.

    GREAT VIEWS AND GREAT PHOTOS
I took the hiking tail which runs alongside the waters edge which is quite easy and gives you a birds eye view of the canyon for the whole stretch showing you all it's glory. You can stop at various points and get some fabulous photos. The route can cause some problems in places when very narrow and you have to pass people coming in the opposite direction so caution is advised. There were also quite a few broken or missing rail guards in places which the authorities need to rectify before someone meets with a nasty or fatal accident. Overall this was a wonderful experience that can be done - as I di - instead of a boat trip. However, if you have the time I would suggest doing both. Not to be missed

Natural harmony of Rock and Water!
Absolutely gorgeous natural wonder with stunning views and affordable boat trips. The canyon and the lake are an eye candy and a photographer's delight. Just a 20 min car ride from center of Skopje. Absolute must to visit even outside of warm seasons!

    Pretty Spectacular
Wowee! We loved it here. We came as part of a private group tour (booked in the city privately, not online, we saw a sign in the Old Town) and we had a great time admiring the views of the canyon. There are options to hire a kayak and take a boat ride to a cave. We didn't do either on this occasion, but enjoyed a picnic with wine with our tour guides and then a walk along the pathways, admiring those spectacular views. Well worth a visit.

    Gorgeous canyon
We took the # 60 bus from Skopje and arrived fairly early before the crowds arrived. It had been drizzly and cool but cleared up somewhat when we got on the boat. There were only 4 of us on the boat that took us around the canyon. The boat ride cost 200 Denars (3.25 euros) and lasted about 40 minutes. The views around the canyon were stunning and the water crystal clear. We didn't go into the cave. Don't expect safety on the boat- there was only 1 life jacket and the boat operator was sitting on it. The things we do when on vacation! We walked a bit around the canyon and stopped for coffee with a view at the restaurant. We had planned on taking the 1:00 bus back to Skopje but it never came (we were told due to low season) so were forced to take a taxi back to Skopje. This is a must see when visiting Skopke.

Beautiful views, stunning gorge and blue green water. A must if in Skopje. Adored our time there and stayed one night. 60 bus from the Central bus station to the canyon. Tickets from the old yellow bus kiosk. Bus drops you off at the kayak sports centre (not the same as the rental kayak area). The walk up the slight incline takes 20mins and you end up at the top of the dam beside the hotel and restaurant. We kayaked which was lovely. Takes 2hrs to get to the cave and back. Approx 600 denars per single kayak. Doubles also available as well as motorised boat tours. If kayaking to cave, await the boat tour to ensure they put the generator on so you can see in the cave. The return journey, got the 11.20am bus. It arrived a little late but ushered us on. Driver let us pay for our return journey back at the station.

We went here for a day and stayed over night.

We drove. You can park in the car park and walk in or you can take your chances and drive on the small lane to find a space. We found a space but maneuvering was tricky as it was busy.

It’s a short walk in via footpath to the canyon. There are some vendors in the way selling drinks, snacks and ice cream (take some cash).

There are 2 places to take a boat trip from. The first you arrive at seems less busy.

We rented a double kayak for 2 hours. This was a nice excursion to the caves and back. If you’re going to the caves on a kayak, take a sturdy show and be prepared to get wet. You tie the kayak to a pontoon and wade to the bank / steps. If kayaking, the boat trip boats don’t tend to slow down causing some small waves - fun if you’re confident: the rental place give you buoyancy aids.

The caves were nice. A fair few steps down and a bit slippy.

You can walk along the side of the cantankerous too. Lots of people were doing that.

I didn’t rate the restaurant. The food was over priced and mediocre at best. Apart from the receptionist, the staff weren’t particularly friendly.

this place is quite fun. when you arrive, you will walk along one side of the canyon, and this path continues for many km.

for the initial part, you will pass a dam , the lake matka, then a couple of boat stations and a chapel.

the 4 km RT boat trip costs 200 denars.

the 10 km RT boat trip which include a cave visit costs 500 denars.

boat trip departs when there are enough pax. so sometimes you do have to wait a bit.

there is also kayak for rent, as well as an option to take the boat across to hike up to a monastery.

you can spend 2h or you can spend a whole day here.
