We came, we saw, we got drunk!
If you enjoy the pastries, the drinks, the warmth of people, Skopje is the place to visit! You will see many cultures, many pros and realistically, many flaws but depending the time of day or the month, you may not wish to leave ;) . Oh, did I mention the cheap cheap drinks and food ? Try the vegetables! Check what is a REAL organic fruit or vegetable.

Welcome to the city of statues
Skopje is a really weird place but never have I been so interested to learn about a city and its history. The architecture tells a story and the amount of statues is bizzare. This was a busy square with a fair few affordable bars and restaurants dotted about. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Although I'm from Skopje, The square on the other side of Stone Bridge is much nicer. Besides the fountain there's nothing much to see, except for Pelister restaurant the others aren't worth the price. The marble can be slippery in the rain and snow so be careful. The only thing I love is the roasted chestnuts in the fall and roasted corn in the summer, the smell of those can't be replaced!

    the buzz of the city
This is the main square in the city - it sits right before the Stone bridge and on the newer side of the city. It is a large square surrounded by hotels , shops and restaurants. The statue of Alexander the great lords over the square - make sure to know the story of his connection to Skopje. And while walking around take in all the statues - they are everywhere!

Really impressive square with huge statues!
Really impressive square with huge statues! Statement urban open space in the centre of the city, dotting with huge historic statues. Also ringed with good bars and restaurants, along with access to the Stone Bridge and through to the Old Bazarre and Castle. Mainteance still an issue through.

Yes, one of those main squares in the world of main squares. Statues, cafes and restaurans, old looking buildings, lot’s of people and more expencive prices. ”Must see” for those who must see this but when you have seen one you have seen them all

I was able to enjoy Skopje recently, and one of the highlights of the visit to the city was taking in all of the beautiful statues present within the center as well as throughout the other sections of the city. Macedonia Square was certainly a great example of this celebration of history and culture. A must see!

Nice square with a gigantic monument in the middle of Alexander the Great. Nice views over the bridge to the old bazaar and mountains in the background too. Really nice city, offered a lot more than I expected and highly recommend doing the 'Free Skopje Walking Tour' to make the most of the place and its history

Wow, so many statues, kitch and grandiosity it is just impossible not to start thinking how huge of a complex this nation has. In an attempt to prove something they are not and in general to be something they went too far. I was able to notice huge statues of Bulgarian historical figures such as King Samuel and Sveti Kliment and Metodii. Also the Greek heroes Alexander the Great and his father pointing at each other. Why is all that..
it must be strange for a tourist that knows the Balkan history.

If you are in Skopje ofc visit it but if you are wondering should you visit Skopje- honestly not much to be seen except for big statues, with mo value and falsification of Bulgarian and Greek history.

They should have used the money for something that won’t stand out and make your eyes bleed by the contrast of this square it’s grandiosity and the poor city itself

If you visit Skopje you will see Macedonia square which is basically the centre of the city. It is an attractive square with a number of statues around but the crown in the jewell is the imposing statue of the Warrior on a Horse with its interesting fountains. There are also a number of good restaurants and cafes located nearby.

The number and size of the sculptures in and around this square was one of the highlights of our Balcan trip. It is not beautiful and it is not natural, imagine a mix of Las Vegas and Disney and you get the idea. Anyway we enjoyed it.

A large impressive square, dominated by the huge statue of supposedly Alexander the Great on his horse. Beautifully paved, it is surrounded by shops, some magnificent buildings (and some not so magnificent) cafes and restaurants and includes other statues and a water display around the main statue. Beautifully lit up at night and just made for people watching, it offers a grand segue into the Stone Bridge and walk up to the Old Bazaar.

The square should be named the statues square. I have never seen so many statues in one space. The area feels like a big museum with lovely statues, gorgeous building and the river running through it brings more life to it.

I truly love the ambiance. I was there for the Christmas and. Santa and his Elves were most present taking photos, and spreading the spirit of the season. A big Christmas brought more festive feelings to the square. Love love it.
