The Dreamland is simply a ridiculous attempt at a quality film theater. It actually has the worst seats ever experienced; hard plastic and barely big enough for a ten year old child. The film selections; while infrequently showing something of value, continues to pander to a teenage audience. It looks good from the outside, but in keeping with the unfortunate values of Nantucket it is all hype and image, with no substance. Very sad, as it's the only game in town...

We love this place. It's not just for movies, it's a social gathering place for introspective documentaries too. Many great choices to choose from on a nightly and weekly basis. A well maintained theater that has unconventional rooms doubled as movie theatres as well as a true movie theatre. One complaint, the popcorn servings are excessively small (and expensive).

When they did the multi million dollar renovation of the Dreamland Theatre years ago, they did a great job in creating a performing arts venue with a keen eye to detail, except one very important detail they completely dropped the ball on. The main auditorium seating is absolutely horrid if you are taller than five foot four inches tall. This was such an important thing to not have critical thinking on.

Nice movie theater showing several movies on a rotating schedule. Nice option for inclement weather or if you are looking for a night out. Seats are comfortable.

Thanks so much for your thoughts on The Dreamland. We've worked hard to create a true film and cultural center for our island community, open year round and providing a wide variety of entertainment options. Please come back!

I do not typically write reviews but I felt the need to share my experience at the Nantucket Dreamland. I am a frequent visitor to the island during the warmer months but made this special trip to look at some commercial real estate. While visiting during January 2019 we went to the movies at the theater on four occasions and each was a negative experience. I found myself walking through the door and each time it just wasn’t the same as it has been in years past. Our experience prior to this particular visit, we always felt welcomed and everyone had smiles on their faces. Sometimes the lines were long but the staff still treated my family like we were the only ones waiting in line; they didn’t allow the stress of the loud, long line hinder the way they interacted with my children. Something has changed. The management did not seem to know what they were doing; the manager was standing back and watching everyone else work. He wasn’t invested in the customer experience. I also felt as though when he did talk to one of the staff he had a negative undertone. My family and I will definitely think twice about future visits to the theater the next time we are visiting Nantucket.

Response from NantucketJoe, Executive Director at Nantucket Dreamland Theater

I am so sorry you feel the way you do, but I’m glad you had the time to come to The Dreamland four times during your brief real estate visit. Since the first of the year, we’ve had nothing but raves about how the “Dramland experience” continues to improve. You may have noticed that the box office manager’s office has been outfitted with a Dutch door, so anyone entering the building is now greeted by a friendly, welcoming face. We now play movies every day beginning in the early afternoon, which many of our senior patrons have praised since it allows them to be home by dark. Stay tuned for many more improvements to The Dreamland to come! Joe Hale Executive Director
