What an unexpected delight to find high quality theater on Nantucket! Attended opening night of “Fireflies,” directed by award-winning Judith Ivey with a first-rate cast. Informative q and a afterwards with cast, director and playwright. There isn’t a bad seat in this small house and the plays are carefully selected through a workshop process. But if you go to one of the standup comedy nights be prepared to be picked on in the front rows. Also be aware that the blue humor is for adults only. They also serve wine and cocktails in a reusable sippy cup that you can take into the theater.…

The White Heron Theater provides surprisingly professional performances throughout the tourist season on Nantucket. They have four different productions a year. We saw "The Weir," a spooky and evocative drama set in Ireland, which we really enjoyed. The theater itself is brand new and every seat is good. And since it's located right downtown it's very convenient.…

White Heron uses top equity actors from New York - one play last summer featured Celia Keenan-Bolger, the actress who won the Tony this year for best actress for her role as Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird. Schlocky regional theater this is not. It is world class theater. Amazing for a small island, but true. The theater itself is small and intimate; every seat is good. And there are sometimes opportunities to meet the cast, director etc. I can’t recommend it highly enough for people who love theater, or even those who just like it.…

Late September 2017, we spent three extra nights on Nantucket due to a tropical storm, One of the best parts of the extra nights was the ability to attend a performance at White Heron. We will make sure we add this fine performance space to our summer plans in 2018. What a performance!…
