Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Central Park is a great place people watching or feeding pigeons. There are plenty of vendors that try and get a top price for their goods do you have to bargain hard to get a reasonable price. It's the best place in Antigua people watching sit down on a bench feed the pigeons and enjoy it

The Plaza Mayor or the Parque Central is a lively center of Old Antigua. It is surrounded by grand architecture and filled with people both foreign and native. I especially liked the Mayas who came down from the surrounding villages to sell their wares in the city. Always dressed in their super colorful, native garb, they are one of the major reasons to visit Antigua, since no other place has as many native Americans as does Guatemala.

If you're in the shopping mood, find Ruth!! She speaks English well, if that is important, and will treat you fairly on prices. The park on a Friday or Saturday evening (before dark) is a wonderful time to take in some Guatemalan culture and family time. We always felt safe there during daylight hours - we had younger family with us and didn't venture out after dark, so can't speak for that.

My recommendation is to go early in the morning before it gets crowded! Grab yourself a cup of coffee of Atole (sold by a vendor near the park) and enjoy the serenity of sitting on a park bench watching the world go by. People walk their dogs there, read the newspaper, and play with children. Later in the day it gets more crowded and more vendors arrive, but the park never loses it's calm. Definitely worth checking out, if for no other reason than to observe the raunchy fountain ;)

Spent a bit of time here when we visited Antiqua.
It’s a lovely park with a fantastic fountain.
There is a lot of vendors selling their crafts, they didn’t pester you if you said your not interested.
Nice place to spend a bit of time.

The is the central park of Guatemala. Of course it is filled with tourists and venders, but it is lively, colorful, and beautiful. Possibly because we stay longer than the normal weekend visitors we are fortunate to experience the many faces of the park. Quiet weekday moments, bright and lively evenings and bustling weekends.

A small plaza with trees and plants and seats with the Cathedral, the Palacio Captianes Generales and plenty of shops and restaurants overlooking it. There is also the El Mercadito which is a large cluster of shops selling handicrafts and souvenirs. There will be lot of local people in the park and plenty of vendors coming after you trying to sell their merchandise. Nice to spend some time here.

Busy, noisy square in Antigua. There are plenty of benches and trees if you want a rest and people watch as there is always something going on.
There will be lots of vendors around but if you say you aren't interested they do go away. If you do want to buy, be sure to bargain.
There are some nice buildings surrounding the square and worth taking some time out to soak up the atmosphere.

every day that i was in antigua i would make my way to the central park and sit on the benches and watch the local sellers and the tourists interact. it was a fun place to go daily and watch how the crowd differs on the week days and the weekends. Lots of pigeons, lots of young kids selling pigeon food, lots of crafty ladies selling souveniers, a good place to meet locals and chat in spanish.

The park is a great place to sit and hang out. We enjoy grabbing a bench and just watching the people go by. You do get asked by the locals if you want to buy their wares from time to time, but they really do not bother you. Great place to meet as well since it is centrally located.

You'll find that most places in Central America will take U.S. currency but you will most likely get a better conversion rate if you have the countries local currency ( Guatemala Quetzal)
