This museum was rather hard to find as we originally were directed to the Croatian museum by mistake! It’s based in an old-fashioned house, surrounded by a lush garden. We went in October and enjoyed sitting in the beautifully maintained garden. As others have noted,...More

My wife and I have visited archaeological museums covering prehistoric, Greek and Roman periods throughout Europe. The collection in this museum is one of the best - particularly for everyday objects (like a Roman cattle brand which we have never seen elsewhere) as well as...More

The museum is an old villa surrounded by a garden and covered arcade around the perimeter. It's a short walk to the North of Split Old City. It's not like your conventional museum with multiple rooms of items. Instead: there is essentially 3 rooms (one...More

10 minutes North West of the city walls. Absolutely worth the short stroll. A tremendous collection of antiquities from Palaeolithic axe heads to medieval bronze helmets with everything in between. We spent an hour fascinated by this museum and could have spent more time here....More

I really enjoyed this museum, there are quite a large number of artefacts, many of which focus on the day to day life of people from the Paleolithic Era to the Dark Ages. There was also a temporary exhibit showing gold earrings from the Roman...More

A museum without any ambition. Small collection. Many empty places. Old fashioned interior. Depressive look. Only the small artefacts looked well

Went in the evening & saw only 2 other visitors. The receptionist was very friendly & the indoor collection has lovely modern, clear presentation, with English summaries of periods: from prehistory through Greek, Roman & into Croatian periods; & translated info about the objects displayed:...More

This museum was a find, despite having to wait 1/2 hour for it to re-open at 2pm. A great collection of artifacts and history from the region, going back over 3,000 years, including some amazing coin collections. Highly recommend
