it's like a shopping mall was built inside ancient catacombs - not a fan for shopping but i enjoyed this - would have liked it even more if this was a regular market, with food and goods, not just fridge magnets everywhere :).

If you enter the palace from ‘port side street level’ you enter the caves of nicknames.... immediately to your left and right are the entrances to the underground basement halls. This is well worth the price of admission and you will not find huge crowds....More

Unfortunately not well advertised and not part of most of the tours. Visiting the undergrounds is the only way to understand what kind of Palace was built on top as it is a pure reflection of what is not standing today. Take time to go...More

You will not be disappointing when visiting the underground. You wonder how they were able to build such a thing. A guide would be best to help explain things.

You must take a slow stroll through here and look around you as there is much to see. Observe the construction and try to fathom the time it took to build this structure. Little booths are there with local items for sale.

A constant flow of cruise ship tour guides and their charges using this as a thoroughfare from the Riva/harbour populate this underground passageway. Mainly art stalls to view, though the usual tourist fare too. However, many guides mentioning this was used as the dragons' lair...More

Lots of little stalls selling all sorts of trinkets and souvenirs. It can very busy down there especially when the cruise ships are in town! Watch the steps too, they can be very slippery, dry or wet!!

There's a handout and there are boards with details of the place and what each thing was used for. You can largely picture what it would have been like. We did a self guided tour and found it sufficient. But there were some... More
