Excellent

This is a well used and well loved church. We initially visited it to attend a Sunday church service and we so impressed with how well cared for it all is.
The monastery building does not look like much from the outside because it is wedged in by other buildings but it is really worthwhile to visit inside the church with its beutiful paintings and statues.

Peaceful
Jul 2019
I most loved the peaceful atmosphere of this place. It's been around since 13th Century and the artwork is just stunning. Enjoyed just sitting inside and soaking it all in. Great place to visit.

Didn’t realise the wrong monastery had come up on my last review! How embarrassing ! Well it is worth a visit here. Well kept collection and the building in this area is extremely well preserved....see previous entry for a big more detail!!

Worth the visit!

The cost is 15 kuna for an impressive collection of very old religious artefacts, dating as far back as 13th century. We loved it!

Monastic Relic

Usually old cloisters are nothing special. However this old monastery in Zadar is worth visiting. It dates back to the 13th century.

It's easy to miss the Monastery, but it's well worth a visit. It's a beautiful, prayerful place filled with atmosphere.

Fantastic place to see old art
Oct 2018 • Couples
I am not much for religious stuff, and most tours of old churches are pretty much the same, so I was really shocked when this church turned out to be so impressive. The art in the Treasury/art gallery was incredible; not only in the talent & craftsmanship of the artist, but also in the overall age, history & significance of each of the items. Now I am finally beginning to understand the beauty contained in these why old religious buildings...

Take time out to visit it
Sep 2018 • Friends
When in Zadar do find time to visit this monastery and the church. Built in the 13thC the church though relatively simple has some incredible wood work. The ceiling and detailing in the furniture are quite unique. Especially wonderful are the choir seats behind the altar.
The monastery houses a gallery with interesting and relevant artifacts.

A sense of Peace pervades this place and it passes all understanding
Jun 2018 • Couples
Serenity pervades this place , cool tranquility washes around an astonishing collection of Medieval religious art work. To my mind the most moving piece is a large painting of a grief stricken man and his children prostrate before the funeral bier of his dead young wife . It is a self portrait. The Artist captures his own tragedy on canvass and donates it to the Monastery. In the past I would have regarded this as mawkish now I marvel at the intensity of passion >The mountainous Loss < which is so clearly displayed. There’s also a curious old 1970’s phone which reminded me of my youth and the nervous apprehension I used to feel phoning up young ladies to ask for a date ! Not sure why I’ve told you that but at least you now know I’m human !

A peaceful place
Jun 2018 • Solo
The Monastery of St Francis of Assisi in Zadar is worth a visit if you like the idea of visiting a church and cloister with a peaceful feeling and an interesting collection of religious art. There were only two other tourists when I was there and most of the time I had it all to myself. Lovely. The curation of the religious art collection is well done, with signage explaining the history and significance of each exhibit.
