Overview
More
St. Nicholas' fortress is situated at the entrance to St. Anthony's channel, and it was constructed during the 16th century in order to protect the town from the Turkish attacks from the sea. It was built after the plans of the Venetian military architect Michelle Sammichelli. White stone was used for building the lower parts of the fortress and red stone for the upper parts. This fortress is one of the strongest maritime fortification architecture on the Croatian Coast of the Adriatic Sea.

We just went yesterday. It's not strictly forbidden - the sign clearly says 'enter at your own risk' and there are no barriers to entry. Inside the fort there are sharp edges, crumbling rock and a climb up a 10 inch wide very solid plank...More

We took a taxi because we weren't sure about bus options. We were keen to go inside but the entrance involved walking up a wooden beam then climbing a precarious post - seemed too risky for us so we looked for other options. Ended up...More

This fortress looks very good inside and from outside. I think it is unique in the world that it is actually the only approach to it from the sea. It keeps the entrance to the channel that every ship that wants to reach Sibenik has...More

Reals impressive very, very massiv stone fortress starboard on the way to Sibenik. Possible to dock your yacht and do a visit from the seaside of the fortress. Amazing abandoned place!

My wife and I visited the Fortress. We drove. Far to far to walk from Sibenik. Picturesque area, walked across the rocks to the fort and yes that is as far as it goes. There are two planks precariously set up to climb up into...More

The St. Nicholas Fortress is located near the center of Šibenik town, you can take a 2h walk with nice views or you can park near the fortress (there's also a playground for kids and pebble beach). We went there with our dogs so we...More

This was a very pleasant surprise, though consistent with some of the earlier reviews. This is a REAL restaurant, which would not be expected in an isolated fortress (very much worth a visit on its own). Good, solid family oriented food and an incredible value...More

The fortress is amazing and strategically located on the seaside of St. Antony channel. However, it cannot be visited inside. Moreover, there is a low visibility in the water and it is not the best place for snorkelling.

We used google maps as a sat nav (walking) on our phone to get there and it seemed to take us in via the rear of the fortress.
