About
St. Lawrence Church was built in the second half of the 18th century for purposes of the Franciscan Order. On the church facade, which ends with a gable, a profiled portal with a humble Baroque transom can be found. Placed in the tympanum of the lateral entrance is a small sculpture of St. Lawrence from 1720. Across from the church is the Franciscan monastery from 1650. Its main building is Foscolo's Palace, the nicest example of housing architecture representing Sibenik from the 15th century.

Pretty Little Garden
Jun 2021
The Monastery has lovely outdoor medieval garden which is well-worth a visit. There is also a small cafe in the garden if you want a coffee or some food while you enjoy the garden.

Small stop as you walk around town
Sep 2020
The monastery is not open to the public however it is free to stroll around the medieval garden which is quite nice. We did not eat there but the food seemed of good quality, very nice setting for a meal.

Church, bell tower, grotto and peaceful medieval garden
Oct 2018 • Solo
St. Lawrence Church and Monastery is ~100 m northeast of St. James Cathedral. The church is part of monastery complex founded in 1650 by Franciscan friars from the island of Visovac. The 18th century stone church is fairly simple in style, with a rectangular 17th century bell tower on one side. A small sculpture of St. Lawrence (1720) is in the pediment above the entrance. The main monastery building was Foscolo’s Palace (15th century), in floral Gothic style designed by Juraj Dalmatinac. Just west of the monastery along Kačićeva and up some steps is a hillside grotto containing a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. In 2007 the overgrown monastery garden was restored as the Medieval Mediterranean Garden with a small cafe. There is a cross design for the pathways, a small centrally located water feature, low-growing plants are framed by boxtree hedges, and beautiful old roses scent the air. Four sections are filled with medicinal plants and herbs that the monks would have used. I found the garden a peaceful place to contemplate the centuries of good works and spiritual power ongoing in the monastery. Aside from daily religious services, the church is generally not open to the public, except by prior arrangement. However, the garden is open from 9am -11pm May-Oct (reduced hours Nov-Apr) with an entry fee of 15 kuna (children 10 kuna).

Came across the gardens and cafe as we ambled around the narrow streets and sat and enjoyed a coffee and sandwich in the peaceful surroundings

Wear something bright and visually arresting,it might help

This is a lovely place and we had promised ourselves something cool and refreshing after our climb up to the fortress. We walked in and considered ourselves lucky to have found a nice secluded table overlooking the Mediterranean Garden which was fragrant with herbs in the noonday sun. Little did we know that we had chosen a table that was completely invisible to the serving staff . Eventually we realised that we too had become invisible the moment we sat down . Other tables we slowly realised were cloaked in invisibility also and a sort of doomed camaraderie developed between their occupiers and ourselves . At times the staff looked as if they were heading in our direction but then abruptly veered off as if repelled by some unseen magnetic force . As the shadows lengthened o’er the lea and the Curfew bell tolled we gave up and sadly trudged off in search of something to eat elsewhere..

Aug 2017 • Solo
This church has a beautiful space near it for quiet reflection where there is a Mary statue in a cave.

There is also a cafe which is perfect for the walk down.

Take a break
Aug 2017 • Couples
Great place to take a break from wandering around the city of Šibenik. Prices are good, place is really nice, you can grab a bite there, only bad side is pretty slow service.
