Overview
More
It dates from a time when Ottoman soldiers were growing increasingly tired of Serb rebellions against their rule. After quelling one such uprising in 1809, Ottoman troops decapitated 952 fallen Serbs and built the short, square tower out of the Serbs' heads. While the Ottomans intended it to serve as a warning to the local population, within a few years the Serbs had managed to rid their lands of the Ottoman occupiers, and they preserved the Skull Tower as a memorial to the sacrifice of the early Serb nationalists.

I don't know anything else that is similar to this landmark. You can see the skulls built into the tower.

I found this disappointing to be honest as a site. There is some important history around it and is an important site to Serbians. It is a very small chapel, and many of the skulls were removed by locals originally to return their deceased to...More

This is certainly one way to intimidate your enemies. This is another " must see" site while in Nis. The ghosts of many, many battles can be felt here. The hundreds of years of conflict gives this site quite a memorable impact.

Its a reminder of the barbaric acts sometimes committed by armies in older times. Has skulls of soldiers as trophies. A small place but a sobering reminder

It is very shocking historical monument. It is not so big, but it has big power. You can study about it in the internet, but l think the tourists had better to good with local guide.
