This is an animal protection project, not a tourist attraction. Visit bears who have been relocated from zoos or private persons. They are set out in nature to live their life, be fed and do what they want - closer to humans or stay without anyone. Visit only in groups with a competent guide who explains in English or Romanian.... More

After reading reviews on here regarding this place I made sure I put it in our itinerary to visit. Being an animal lover the first thing you see or even think is another place where animals are behind bars or cages and you automatically assume these guys need to be in the wild. With that in mind once you walk... More

You can reach the sanctuary by a steap and rocky road so make sure you leave in time because it will take you 10 minutes extra to get there. The prices are 40 lei for adults and 10 lei for children or students under the age of 25. The money is used to take care of the animals. Tours are... More

As others have commented, this is not a zoo. The bears have all been rescued from circuses, private owners and closed zoos. You are shown a video about the history of the sanctuary and then walk around the sanctuary. It is wonderful to see the bears happy in their 69 hectares of space, especially when you hear of the conditions... More

As other reviewers have said this place is a sanctuary for bears, it is set up for their wellbeing. That said (once you've got there) it's interesting and well worth a visit Also make sure you stop in the restaurant you pass on your way up, stunning interior, better views and very cheap

A must see if you like to see the conservation of these amazing animals. Really reasonable price but very limited times. Last tour at 11am in season. Winter last tour is 12pm. Opens about 9am. Tour guide spoke great English, very knowledgeable and told stories about the bears....some really sad. I really enjoyed seeing this place. There is a fantastic little... More

I had read rave reviews of this place - maybe I was expecting too much. Yes it is true it is a fantastic place that looks after the bears but it is not really a great tourist attraction which is fair enough as it was built for the bears not the tourists. Unless you have your own car it is... More

For any animal lover it was wonderful to see the important work being done at the sanctuary. Even in February the staff were happy to give a tour and we saw many bears and felt very privileged to do so. This is NOT a Zoo but a vital sanctuary for rescued bears, wolves and other animals. Do visit and support... More

I have been there with my son for him to learn about the life of the wild animals kept in captivity, how that affects them and why we should respect them and their freedom. The people at Bears Sanctuary do their job out of passion and the bears are really happy there. It shows that the commitment of the staff... More

Everything was very beautiful. Bears are safe but the staff was very unpolitely. Nice place to visit for the animals/bears.
