By no means the largest museum in Egypt, Alexandria still has a very unique history that is less insular than that of Ancient Cairo, Luxor, Memphis and other Nile Valley civilizations.

Over 5000 years of historic artifacts are crammed in a limited space. Pharonic heritage, Greco-Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic era, are well integrated in a professional display despite the limited space. The building, owned by the US Consulate for decades, is a Ministry of Culture heritage building.

This museum chronicles some of the history of Alexandria and its Roman as well as ancient Egyptian past. For that reason, the content is rather broad. It is a great break from the heat outside.

This is a gem of a museum. It is easy to spend about two hours here and walk through the well organised collection over three floors. All exhibits are labelled in both Arabic and English. The current price for foreigners is LE40. The museum is closed on Fridays. I enjoyed my visit more than my visit to the Egyptian museum... More

Small museum built in an old grand ho me. Nice displays, especially in the tomb room. You don't need more that 60-90 minutes to see everything

There is so much history to see in Egypt that it's impossible to see or remember it all. If you are in Alexandria and have some time, this is worth a look. Don't go out of your way.

The library in Alexandria is hoping to restore the glory from Ancient Days but it is not quite there yet. It is a good, average, modern library getting more and more books and ancient manuscripts all the time but ... The best is the ancient manuscript room, so make sure you go there, spend a little extra for a ticket... More

Whilst small, the museum has a lot of history which is extremely well presented. There are three levels to the museum, including Ancient Egyptian, Coptic and the Muslim world. My favourite, by far was the Ancient Egyptian exhibition, particularly the mummy's tomb. There is English signage around all artifacts which provides a great basis for understanding. Be mindful of the... More
