This museum housed in an old villa is well worth a visit. It showcases items from the entire range of egyptian history; from the pharaohnic in the basement to the coptic and Islamic eras on the upper floor. For the best experience start in the...More

I thought that this museum did a very good job of telling the story of Egypt from the time of the pharaohs, thru the Roman/Grecian occupation, to modern times. Nicely set on three floors, be sure to check out the tomb in the basement!

I agree with the reviewer who said it’s a smaller scale Cairo Museum. If you don’t know much about the history of Alexandria, it’s an interesting stop, and I recommend it. It’s not crowded, so you have plenty of room to move around even though...More

This place has many of the same type of things as the Egyptian Museum in a much smaller scale. Unlike the Egyptian Museum, this place has proper lighting and English descriptions of all items. Where the Egyptian Museum is still in the 1920’s, this place...More

Nice small museum in an old villa. Somewhat eclectic presentation. Some very interesting exotic pieces of sculpture and mosaics from all over Egypt, not just origins from Alexandria. Clean, safe environment. I'm glad we visited, but I would not rate this as a must see...More

Excellent place to learn about the influence of other cultures in Alexandria. This museum is divided into three main halls: Ancient Egyptian, Coptic - Christians - , and the Muslim world. Consequently, each hall would explain the visitor the influence this city underwent under those...More

Sadly I didn’t pay the extra £E40 for photos here, but sometimes I like to look without the distraction of snapping photos. The villa itself is a lovely old building with marble stairs and scroll bannisters. There are two floors beneath ground level, one is...More

This museum doesn't receive the publicity it deserves which is truly saddening.Yes the museum occupies a very small area and doesn't contain as many artefacts as the Egyptian Museum. However, all the artefacts are displayed in a unique way and are even more unique themselves.Together, they also...More
