I have meant to go to this Mosque on so many occasions that I thought I'd would try this time when I was in the centre of Sousse The man at the door was very friendly and wanted to tell me more about the Mosque, such as the separation for men and women by screens with them all actually being... As it is well-known it's almost impossible to get into the mosque. Fortunatelly this place wasn't even worth entering.

Was welcomed to the Mosque by the locals, respecting their rules etc. The mosque is huge and has a very peaceful atmosphere.

The Great Mosque of Kairouan is one of the most impressive and largest Islamic monuments in North Africa. It is also one of the oldest places of worship in the Islamic world, as well as a model for all later mosques in the Maghreb.

Beautiful old mosque in the heart of the UNESCO heritage site of the old souk. The mosque is spectacular and is a haven of peace and tranquillity within the UNESCO souk. Both compliment each other and have been there for centuries. This is the beating heart of Sousse. Non Muslim visitors can visit in the morning.

Interesting visit to historical site. Be aware of the narrow steps when climbing the high tower, and unguarded areas.

This mosque is a block away from the castle. both were built by the Aghlabi dynasty. The mosque is about 1200 years old and is still in great condition. The architecture is similar to that of Kairawan and zaytuna mosques. The double pillars supporting the arches. They maintain almost the same dimensions between arches inside the mosques. All pillars are... More

From Tunis to Sousse is a long bus ride but the trip is worth the visit to the Mosque and neighbouring souk. Constructed upon the remains of both early Roman temples and Christian churches (watch for the remnants of predecessor religious sites in stairs and walls of the mosque), this is a magnificent structure. We were not permitted to enter,... More
