Well worth a quick visit! We got a taxi from our hotel and asked the driver to wait because we knew we'd only be about 15-20 minutes. Very interesting to see the whole process, of both how gold leaf is made and also the bamboo...More

After visiting a temple in Mandalay, our guide took us to King Galon to show us how gold leaf is produced. The men pounding the gold strip had worked up quite a sweat. We also saw how the leaf was cut and wrapped in bamboo...More

We went here a little reluctantly on the recommendation of our driver. It was very interesting to see the gold leaf being preparers and artfully applied. As expected there was a shop but no pressure, very reasonably fixed priced pieces available for sale.

Good explanation of how a gold nugget is transformed to gold leaf. Also how bamboo is transformed into paper to separate the gold leaves. Also able to watch men hammering the gold, made me tired just watching!!

We visited this workshop during a tour of the city and found it quite interesting. The workers are very hard working and excellent in their craft, which shows in the pieces sold at the shop.

You get to know how they make gold leaves and there is a shop where you can buy gold souvenirs. You can also see workers hammering on the gold. Tough job. Allow 30 minutes.
