I do believe this to be one of the only truly ethical sanctuaries in Lao and the wider SEA area. It was clear they care about the animals’ welfare from the small group sizes to the experts from Thailand they have on staff. It is...More

Thanks so much for your review and your feedback. MandaLao actually doesn't allow any bathing with the elephants and we don't allow the guests to splash them either. Be assured that we'll check into this to make sure that protocols are followed to ensure only...More

When we were in Laos, we saw a lot of places that called themselves "elephants sanctuary", but when we saw pictures, they all have riding on them. I've read before that this is harmful to them. We kept looking until we find Mandalao in Luang...More

I booked the full day tour and it was honestly the most incredible experience of my 15 months traveling Asia. They limit the tour to 4 people, so it was very personal. A lot of the other “ethical” sanctuaries I looked into didn’t limit the...More

To be honest, I was really hesitant about going to MandaLao to see the elephants. Mainly because so many places call themselves sanctuaries and conservations and eco-friendly, etc and most of the time I’m left disappointed in their treatment of the animals or their less...More

Basically confirming the positive reactions I read below: enthusiast guide, wonderfull location and of course the good cause. We booked the half day 'communicating with elephants'.
