Elephant Village in Luang Prabang was set up in 2003 and is now owned by a group of passioante Lao nationals. Our sales office is located on the main street in town close to the National Museum and our beautiful elephant camp is located next to the village Ban Xieng Lom. Elephant Village focuses on three objectives:1. Saving Elephants 2. Community Support 3. Nature Preservation. We take elephants out of the very dangerous logging industry and provide them with an alternative way of earning their income. We try to help the elephants which desperately need help the most such as older elephants and elephants which have injuries due to accidents. We currently have 14 elephants in our care including 2 baby elephants which will never have to work in the logging industry. We are also home to a female elephant called Mae Uak, who was injured when she stepped on a 'UXO' (Un-Exploded Ordinance) some time ago, before we rescued her. She is now happily living in our herd.

Top attraction in Luang Prabang. Mack was our guide- knowledgeable and very welcoming. The village is situated only 20 minutes outside town in a magnificent setting overlooking the Tributary of the Mekong. Elephants appeared well nourished, feet and hides looked in excellentcondition and the guides all had a bond with the elephants. Riding was safe without any chair placed over... More

We are a family of four booked in for the 1 day mahout training. Our guide picked us up from hotel in LP and we were all greeted by friendly staff at the amazing elephant camp. Once introduced to our group we were all given a quick mahout training and then treated to a practise ride on one elephant around... More

I have previously done an elephant sanctuary/mahout training experience in Thailand a few years ago, and this completely exceeded my prior experience! I did the 2 day 1 night trip and am so glad I opted for this. You get to spend more time with the beautiful and sweet gentle giants and the accommodation and pool are such a clean... More

Our guide was Mr. Mack and my mahout was Mr. Lay. From the moment we were picked up at our hotel this was nothing but a positive and exhilarating experience! I went into this with a broken foot so couldn't wear my walking cast but rather jammed my foot into a shoe. So Mr. Mack. Ask for him! He is... More

This a one of the mot brilliant experiences of my life! I have lived in South East Asia for 7 years and so have heard many horror stories about elephant riding companies, but Elephant Village really is a fantastic place that practice RESPONSIBLE TOURIM! Other reviews I have seen criticize the elephant riding and them being chain up at night,... More

Dear Daisy G, Thank you so much for your wonderful review and amazing support. We always try to educate our guests about what we are and what we do, however we always make sure that everyone understands how we work. You are correct about them not being able to roam at night, but it is actually for a different reason... More

The Elephants are not well treated and are very old. Not the best place to visit. Cannot compare this place to Chang Mai.

We took our 3 young children (aged 11, 9 and 8) to this sanctuary and were so impressed. It was laid back, never felt we were being rushed through. We had a practise ride on one elephant then we were off on our trek through the river on our elephants. It was such an experience to be riding right there... More

Had the most wonderful day visiting the Elephant Sanctuary. Elephants very well looked after, they were able to roam freely even taken back to the jungle by their manhouts on a night time! We were taught how to communicate with the elephants before being allowed to ride them ( no saddles strapped to them sat on them bare back )... More

I read a lot of reviews on here and some people said they didn't get much time with the elephants. We did the 1 day Mahout, it was brilliant. We got 3 rides on an elephant. One when we first got there after they teach you how to get on, the words of command, etc. This was just a taster... More

Dear scasken, Thank you for your amazing review, we really appreciate it. The 1 day mahout experience is actually the most popular tour we do if only for the bathing! We try to make our tours more rounded than just purely riding on the elephants which is why we have a museum, dung paper making facility, gallery and so on.... More
