We happened to stumble across this establishment as we were living next door for 2 days, and we decided that we would love to help Lao students and monks practice their English. Having attended 2 sessions so far, we plan on returning as we really enjoy learning about the Lao citizens and to be able to help where we easily... More

The centre is open between 9-11 am and 5-7 pm and invites tourists to spent two hours chatting with young Laotian men and women who are trying to improve their English. It was great fun and the time went very quickly. There were not enough tourists to go round and more are needed!

Your visit to Luang Prabang is not complete without volunteering at the Big Brother Mouse. These people are doing such amazing work for the kids of LP. We volunteered for 2 hours (5pm-7) and had a blast talking with a few teenagers in English. They are so dedicated to learning English. I was really impressed. This was the highlight of... More

Such a great idea, make sure you find the time to do this whilst staying in Luang Prabang ! We went on our last morning before heading to the airport, after it being recommended to us by another traveller the day before. No booking required you just turn up at 9 or shortly after and are sat with one of... More

Having spent 2 hours chatting to a 17 year old who only had 6 months of English learning I came out humbled. He was keen, asked me to explain some words he had written down; asked me to give examples of the past, present and future tenses; and I learned that he had 8 brothers and sisters; that they start... If you enjoy seeing a non profit project that is successful bringing the English language to the less than modern world, this is it. Big Brother Mouse publishes books in Lao and English for a population that has no access to books in their own language or English. Reading and English is the key to the the development of the... We have been in Laos for two weeks, not talking to a lot of locals. We visited this place at the end of our stay, but we should have visited in the beginning instead, as it was an unique opportunity to talk to local youth, getting some insight about their lived, opinions and background, which provided us with new eyes... My wife and I came across this project by sheer accident, which means that it should have a lot more publicity than it hitherto has, because it is such a great concept! Basically, between the hours 9am – 11am and 5pm – 7pm you can turn up, sit down and chat with locals who wish to learn or improve their... More
