There were four of us, my husband and I and two children aged 18 and 21. We all loved it! We enjoyed a welcome drink upon arrival and watched the sunset, the view is magnificent. We then experienced a traditional welcome, which was beautiful. Our dinner was authentic and lovely, We enjoyed traditional music. It was a relaxed atmosphere with excellent service. We did not feel rushed at any time. I highly recommend this experience. It is a must when visiting Luang Prabang.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 January 2024
- Jaye h13 contributionsA must do in Luang PrabangFinding a cultural activity that will interest teenage boys can be challenging but our children (ages 16/13) were fully engaged at The Bamboo Experience. The welcome drink to begin the evening watching the sunset over the rice fields was a lovely gesture and our guides were thorough in their explanations of the uses of bamboo in Lao culture. We learned the techniques to create sticky rice and also how to weave a bamboo coaster! The cooking lesson was fun and interactive and we loved eating the wonderful food we created. To finish the evening we were lucky enough to watch a musical demonstration and also have a try of the instrument ourselves. Lastly was some traditional Lao dancing, our sons even had a try! We couldn’t recommend this experience enough and would encourage everyone to spend some of their time in Luang Prabang here. Thanks Si!Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 January 2024

Our final morning we were collected at about 8 from our hotel and taken to the bamboo experience which is a family run business.First thing was green tea with a bamboo straw. All the different baskets and containers were shown to us and their uses. All shapes and sizes. We were the only ones taking the course but most times a lot more so best to book early.Very pleasant staff who we laughed with when we tried out a crossbow and stilts. We each made a coaster with a lot of help.Next donning aprons was the cookery course.First the rice had to be pounded and the chaff got rid of.The resident chef showed us how sticky rice was cooked having previously been soaked.Banana leaves acted as plates and were used to hold bamboo shoots stuffed with pork.Fish also cooked in banana leaves. We ate at a table and ate the cooked dishes now beautifully decorated with carrot and cucumber flowers. While we ate we were entertained by a man who was from one of the hill tribes and he played a Khene and danced beautifully. Finally the staff showed us the Laos bamboo dance. It requires skillfull feet and moving to the rhythm while 2 other people switch and tap large bamboo poles on the ground and against each other. No we didn't try it!.A brilliant time and great staff, very chatty and friendly.

I (as Wendy Wu Tours) brought a group of New Zealand travel agents to The Bamboo Experience in Luang Prabang and I think we all agreed it was the best thing we did in the area!
The day wasn't just learning about all the uses of bamboo, but a real cultural experience which gave us all an insight into the life of the Lao people. We participated in archery, stilt walking, dancing, bamboo weaving (which is a lot harder than it looks!), cooking (and eating) local food and whiskey all made from bamboo, instrument playing....you name it!
Everything was so much fun and we all learned so much. The people who work at The Bamboo Experience are so kind and gentle and have a wicked sense of humor. We wanted to stay longer!
An experience well worth the time and money - not to be missed!!!

We found The Bamboo Experience on trip advisor and after admiring the amazing things made out of this incredible material was excited to go. The evening different disappoint. The owner picked us up from our guesthouse and took us to his home where we spent hours playing with, eating and learning bamboo. The two boys that looked after us for the night were great fun and taught us about the different kinds of bamboo, showing us instruments, toys, fishing traps and more all made out of bamboo! Then the fun really started. We played games with bamboo, weaved coasters, drank whisky, ate an incredible bamboo meal, played instruments, danced and laughed, A LOT! Great, friendly, knowledgable hosts, who were fun and enthusiastic throughout.
Hats off to Somsay, who has created a unique experience in Luang Prabang and to his two young teachers, the chef and the smiley, weaving instructor who whipped us all up a ring, keyring and deer while we were having dinner.

We weren't expecting too much from this trip, but OMG were we wrong!!
We were picked up in perfect timing by our guide Somsay (ask for him!) with excellent English and from there on in, we couldn't fault the experience
Professional, friendly, informative, clean...
So much fun preparing lunch, learning about bamboo, playing crossbow and my personal highlight, being taught to weave bamboo by a 69 year old Master bamboo weaver, who is also an ex Monk!!!
It's a slightly slow start, but once you're in the day, you'll wonder where the time went.
All the team at Bamboo Experience were awesome. Good work guys - thanks for some incredible memories that will last a lifetime 👊🏻

The Bamboo Experience... what an experience! Having spent 2 years in Southeast and East Asia, I've seen bamboo used at different occasions indeed, in real life and in museums, but never had I realized bamboo could be used in SO many ways.
The half a day program started with a very detailed explanation of those uses, showing us dozens of objects made of bamboo, and actually telling us what they were made for. The fact that the host used to live in the remote area of Laos where they would use those objects would explain the level of expertise and add authenticity.
Then we could have fun playing some games including archery with bamboo bows, and trying to walk on bamboo sticks.
Came time for the cooking class, using edible bamboo varieties in so many ways again, very impressive. And it was neat to actually take part in the cooking of what we would later eat!
Lunch over, we had a weaving class, and could make our own small bamboo mat.
Once done a Hmong would play a traditional bamboo instrument and dance at the same time
Finally, we were invited to jump bamboo sticks.
Oh and I must say that all the staff is really friendly, and the host speaks an excellent English and loves to make (good) jokes :)
Definitely a wonderful opportunity not to be missed, to learn and have fun on the way (and fill your belly :D)
I've been traveling for years, and I can tell you that this was a very unique experience, and would be a highlight of any trip!

I was a single traveller in a small group. Over our three days in Luang Prabang we went to the Bamboo Experience twice: once in the evening and once in the morning. On each occasion there were different activities. In the evening visit it was a demonstration of all the things that can be made from bamboo, followed by some bamboo weaving (which was fun) and a very nice dinner. There was also an interesting indigenous musical performance at the end. In the morning it was stilt-walking, archery and sticky-rice making. It was all very pleasant and interesting, with an admirable variety of experiences, and we loved the quiet friendly courtesy of the local people. My one teensy complaint is that it was very hot and the white wine we had with dinner could have been colder.

Interesting visit to the Bamboo Experience! They taught a lot about the various uses of bamboo and rice.
We had a traditional lunch that was set up on a small platform on the floor...
Definitely a good feel of local life!

I went there and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, the owner came to collect us and was a very nice man, we drove through the village to get to it which was a very traditional Laos setting. The Bamboo house itself is simply amazing and it is surrounded by the most beautiful scenery you get to see in Luang Prabang, plus it is a family run business which is apparent by how well the staff are together, they instantly make you feel at home and are passionate about what they do. We where there for the sunset which was amazing to see. We got to weave mats, play with a traditional crossbow and even got competitive on bamboo stilts, after dinner and drinks we had music and a special dance which was very fun to take part in. I highly recommend this to anyone with a spare evening, you will not be disappointed.
