If you don't mind the hassle of vendors bugging you for bargains this is the real place to experience a little cultural heritage. A great eye opening is the Gold souk- the items come in all sizes and shapes to tantalise your eyes and wallet. Imagine seeing gold body suit!! If you know what to buy and understand the price... Take an abra across the river to the spice souk. Spices are laid out in front of the stores, hawkers beg you to come in to see their wares. Smells and sights are vivid. Walk several blocks to the gold souks where all manner of bright yellow gold is displayed. A fun thing to do.

Looking for gold jewellery? This is the place to be. With hundreds of thousands of design, be ready to be dazed. Whether shopping jewellery or just sight seeing, I recommend passing through the Gold Souk as part of your itenary when visiting Dubai. The nearest Metro stations are on the Green Line. I recommend Al Ras. The other is Palm... More

This is a must see, just for the volume of gold. Lots of hawkers too! Enough gold/money to solve world hunger I'm sure! But don't expect a bargain. Gold is worth its weight in......., yes gold! So no matter where you go it'll be the same around the world. Sorry but don't expect any special deals here. :-(

We took the little boat crossing for a very cheap 1 Dirham each to visit the Spice and Gold Souk. The sellers were of course trying to get your business as usual by chatting you up,but not in an aggressive way. The spices were all on display but were all a bit the same at every outlet, we wondered what... More

Forget the malls with the same international brands you can buy anywhere and get yourself to the souks. The souks are interesting, colourful, full of people and wonderful merchants enticing you to buy with a mix of flattery and funny stories. As well as spice and gold souks there are others selling souvenirs, costume jewellery, perfume and chocolate to name... More

I spent several hours trawling through the many outlets at the gold soul. A large proportion of traders were less than honest. So the following is a guide to buying gold. Usually the traders weigh the item and give you a price. If you're serious about buying gold, bring your own scales and a magnet. You need to verify the... More

So I love gold , and I love visiting this place . So many interesting pieces of jewellery and you can haggle till your heart is content . There's loads of street sellers selling fake bags shoes etc which can spoil it at bit but they're not as aggressive as some sellers met in other countries . I always get... More

I loved seeing all the gold and the style of Jewelry. Beautiful to see. But I found the spice Souk much more interesting. All spices you can imagine. You can try all spices and the smell alone is just fascinating. Make sure you haggle! You'll have a whole new experience once back home in your own kitchen. And don't forget... More

Staying in The Creek

Neighbourhood Profile
The Creek
The smell of frankincense hangs thick and heavy in the air, waves lap gently at jetties, and market traders call to passing tourists. The creek, originally the place where pearl boats docked and left on missions to uncover jewels from the deep, is where the city really began. The Al Fahidi District on the Creekside is one of the oldest heritage sites in Dubai, easily recognizable with its iconic wind towers, the original air conditioning. Home to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and the Dubai Museum, the old buildings also house a range of cafes, shops and art galleries. Often called “the real Dubai,” this is a wonderful place to lose yourself before catching an abra across the creek to the spice souk, where your senses will be overwhelmed with tastes, smells, and sounds.
