As usual, never enter a store asking and shopping without asking discounts. You may find good prices for gold already, but ask and you be surprisingly happy.

One small street in the modern end of Salalah. The jewelery is uniquely Omani style and when you want to know the price of something, they weigh it. Bargaining a little bit is fine! There are a couple of antique jewelers here as well and a small amount of silver.

Amazing seeing the sheer number of shops and the variety of designs available - from an impossibly heavy enormous necklace that looked more like body armour than jewellery, to delicate Western designs. Gold, diamonds, other precious stones...the lot. Very bling. Outside the 'mall' bit are a few shops where you can get your gold/diamonds valued/sell gold for cash, but I... More

It is definitely a must place to go/visit while in Dubai. You can see the old city, and experience the costumes of the middle east. It's also a good place to buy souvenirs, cheap and variety. You can see the Heaviest Golden Ring in the world, according to Guiness book.

This is pretty much the mecca of Gold in Dubai. Your experience here depends on what you are seeking. If you want to just take a look walking around and soak the hype that surrounds this place, its going to be awesome. On the other hand if you want to buy something from here, depends on your luck of finding... More

Upon check-in the Marriott Marquis provided us with information for a self-guided tour of the Souks. This turned out to just what we wanted. Using the superb metro to reach our starting-point at Al Ras station we first passed a neighborhood where the “real shopping” takes place. Narrow allies with unspectacular shops for household goods, oil, dried food etc. Entering... More

Fascinating to see that much gold in one place with minimum security personnel ever. Not sure about the shopping, wouldn't know where to start, felt disorientated at best.

It's interesting to imagine how much gold is in this area. They say 25% of Dubai's gold is located here. Shop around, bargain hard and you can get a decent deal. They have up to 22K gold, it's really yellow, but it would be soft. I'm not sure how it would hold up to daily wear, the 18K probably would... More

One of the districts you have to visit when you are in Dubai. Even if you are not planning to buy anything. And if you buy something, the prices are very reasonable and don`t forget to bargain!

Went there just to check it out. People wont stop approaching me to sell their gucci LV prada watches and stuff. It was worse than bangkok. On the other hand that was an experience on itself.

Staying in The Creek

Neighbourhood Profile
The Creek
The smell of frankincense hangs thick and heavy in the air, waves lap gently at jetties, and market traders call to passing tourists. The creek, originally the place where pearl boats docked and left on missions to uncover jewels from the deep, is where the city really began. The Al Fahidi District on the Creekside is one of the oldest heritage sites in Dubai, easily recognizable with its iconic wind towers, the original air conditioning. Home to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and the Dubai Museum, the old buildings also house a range of cafes, shops and art galleries. Often called “the real Dubai,” this is a wonderful place to lose yourself before catching an abra across the creek to the spice souk, where your senses will be overwhelmed with tastes, smells, and sounds.
