Described as both a ‘Vertical City’ and ‘A Living Wonder,’ Burj Khalifa,...

Described as both a ‘Vertical City’ and ‘A Living Wonder,’ Burj Khalifa, developed by Dubai-based Emaar Properties PJSC, is the world’s tallest building.

Rising gracefully from the desert, Burj Khalifa honours the city with its extraordinary union of art, engineering and meticulous craftsmanship.

At 828 metres (2,716.5 ft), the 200 plus storey Burj Khalifa has 160 habitable levels, the most of any building in the world. The tower was inaugurated on January 4, 2010, and is responsible for a number of world-firsts. The tower became the world’s tallest man-made structure just 1,325 days after excavation work started in January 2004.

Burj Khalifa utilised a record-breaking 330,000 cubic metres of concrete; 39,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement; 103,000 square metres of glass; and 15,500 square metres of embossed stainless steel. The tower took 22 million man hours to build.

It's a lovely building to look at, especially at night when it twinkles. My children said it looked like a witches finger. My husband has a keen interest in visiting the highest building in most cities we visit, and was extra keen to see the highest in the world, currently. However we didn't end up going up because it was... More

We went during Christmas week and it was unbelievably crowded! You would think that they would have been prepared to handle crowd control but they couldn't even organize the lines for entry. People who purchased tix through Groupon were turned away because they apparently don't accept the vouchers during peak times which isn't stated on the voucher and caused those... More

We really wanted to experience the Burj Khalifa on a one night stay in Dubai, but didn't get fast track tickets, we bought them on the spot in the Dubai Mall, so the queue was long and fairly slow moving. Once at the top though it was so worth it. The best place to see all of Dubai, there are... More

I'm not one to be easily awe-struck, but really, this magnificent futuristic structure, pointing over half a mile high, left me wide-eyed and speechless. Beautiful surroundings on the ground too - fountains and right next to the Dubai shopping mall. Restaurants etc nearby.

As an architect it was very important for me to visit burj khalifa. The building is great, but it was extremely crowded and the experience was not so delightful. Buy your tickets in advance, that's the best advice I can give. If I didn't have bought mine and booked the time to get inside, I would have just given up,... More

We pre booked our tickets from the UK thinking it would save time, how wrong can you be it was one queue after another and then you eventually get to the lift, once up there the views are amazing, things to consider the weather plays a major role obviously if it's cloudy also you get a heat haze this greatly... A must in Dubai. We had a great experience. A magnificently designed building looms over the Dubai mall and fountain.

Staying in Downtown Dubai

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown Dubai
You can’t fail to miss Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. It towers over the city and resides in the prestigious Downtown development. Once an old army base, Downtown is now the jewel in Dubai’s crown, a beautiful residential and leisure area housing not only the world’s tallest building, but the world’s largest fountains and mall. Wide marble sidewalks are perfect for strolling, with restaurants, art galleries and children’s play areas. Specially commissioned sculptures line the roads and Downtown is often used as a canvas for modern art displays and community events such as Classic Car Shows and National Day parades. In the cooler months, cross one of the many bridges to the Burj Khalifa park and enjoy a picnic alongside residents and visitors, or enjoy a lunch or dinner watch the dancing fountains. Because of its mixed use, Downtown is a fantastic place to mix with Dubai residents and locals and watch real life unfold in a cosmopolitan environment.
