Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went to mass (9am Thursday and Sunday) and got to see it first. Built in the 1600s, it s well decorated but somewhat understated. Some statuary and pan de oro decorate it. No where near as opulent as many Latin American cathedrals. You can also visit it through a tour of the museum.

Worth a visit if you can figure out and then negotiate the opening hours - as with everything else in Sucre.

This cathedral is still in great shape. The outside has been well maintained. Statues on all 4 corners on every level of the clock tower. Worth a photo

Knowledgable English speaking guide, but, constantly ushering us through the different rooms. At one point, she was waiting by the light switch, and showing her frustration at our interest in the artefacts . All the way from England for that

Normally the only way to see the cathedral is by visiting the museum next door, both recommended highlights of Sucre. Alas, both are closed for renovation as of August 2017 and the cathedral isn't even open for services, so there's no way to see it at all until it reopens.

Sucre is a very religious city. I am not very much of a catholic, but this church was very impressive (scary for me as well). You can breath mistery in the air. I can't really find the words to describe this place, I just know I liked it

This was a good stop if you have exhausted all other things to do. I appreciated the beauty but the tours are only in Spanish so I was not sure what I was looking at. They do charge extra for you to take photos which I kind of think is shady and Unecessary

Beautiful building in a beautiful square, colonial architecture beautiful kept and maintained. Unfortunately it is often close to visitors.

I really had a hard time going here as a Christian - lots of gold, relics, the Mother Mary in all of Her splendor!! There was a major hail storm during our stay and we had to walk through piles of hail-stones when we exited. The Museum of the Church shows how the Spaniards "screwed" the country for centuries prior to independence!!

You can't miss this Cathedral because it really does stand out at the plaza with it's beautiful architecture and bells in the tower. We were fortunate to be there when a mass was being said and went inside. It was just as impressive. The side entrance door is very unique.
