Best to take the tour, it's free with entrance ticket. The main halls abound n history and a nclude the Declaration of Independence from Spain and many paintings of the famous Latin Americans that fought for freedom, especially Simon Bolivar. One room has a 1775 map of South America, and other memorabilia. Worth the $2.10 admission.…

The place is nice, but the explanations are scarce. You should take a guided tour if you want to get the most out of the place, otherwise you won't understand much of what you are looking at.

I think it is probably the most important museum in Bolivia in terms of historical significance. Quite a treat for history buffs as the guides do bring up a sense of excitement on how the country’s story unfolded, but for those who don’t like looking at pieces of paper (replica of constitution etc) and portraits of unfamiliar Bolivian historical figures, it would be quite boring. I was so excited to visit this and was not disappointed. There was lot to see and most of the information was also available in English. There were also guided tour in several languages. Loved learning about the revolutions and the people. Top attraction!
