Best to take the tour, it's free with entrance ticket. The main halls abound n history and a nclude the Declaration of Independence from Spain and many paintings of the famous Latin Americans that fought for freedom, especially Simon Bolivar. One room has a 1775 map of South America, and other memorabilia. Worth the $2.10 admission.

The place is nice, but the explanations are scarce. You should take a guided tour if you want to get the most out of the place, otherwise you won't understand much of what you are looking at.

I think it is probably the most important museum in Bolivia in terms of historical significance. Quite a treat for history buffs as the guides do bring up a sense of excitement on how the country’s story unfolded, but for those who don’t like looking at pieces of paper (replica of constitution etc) and portraits of unfamiliar Bolivian historical figures, it would be quite boring. I personally loved it and thought the English speaking guide was a delight. Thanks for sharing your nation’s story!

On this spot, Simon Bolívar declared the independence of Bolivia. It is a well preserved place in the centre of Sucre. The effigies of all presidents of Bolivia are presented, with short descriptions of their ruling periods. This gives an interesting insight in the politics of Bolivia
