It was fascinating to see these archaeological ruins, and to understand how people lived centuries ago.

Interesting

While the remains are spectacular in my opinion, and the archaeological objects found very interesting, the museum is cold and empty. A big hole for the excavations and remains, and then dusty wooden windows with objects and a few explanations in belarussian. I didn't spent too much time, many 15 minutes and that was already because I'm very interested in archaeology. But this museum deserve way better !

On the territory of the museum at the depth of 4 m archaeologists conservated streets paved with woods, the remains of buildings of various purposes. They all occupy the area of more than 1000 m2. The exhibition presents 28 residential and commercial log buildings. The museum is located on the trritiry of the other museum - Brest Fortress, which is "must see" of Brest. So, if you are I certainly reccommend to visit both!

Ok museum, but not great

It's interesting for a quick look, just outside the fortress. But there's no explanations in English. Near the museum is a sign warning you are in a border zone between Belarus and Poland, which makes for a nice photo.

Unbelievable remnants of a medieval village.

I have never seen before so intact excavations and relics of a wooden village originally from, I guess, 9th - 10th centuries. Log walls remained intact up to the height of 1.6 metres (5 ft) with the plan of the village preserved. Buildings are very small (5 m2) and bulit very near to each other (0.6 - 1 m apart) to protect the village from attacers. You can only guess how big families of many children could live inside such small houses. A replica of a fully furnished house is on display. Very small entrance fee is required (1.3 EUR), rest rooms available, souvenirs can be purchased. Unforunately descriptions mostly in belorussian and russian only.

A very interesting museum, that is a big roof covering the archeological site of the 1970s. Last year archeological excavations were resumed and visitors can see it on the way tothe museum.

An interesting archaeological site to explore
Sep 2012 • Friends
The Berestye Museum is located within the Brest Hero Fortress memorial complex, which in itself is highly worth a visit. This museum demonstrates an excavation of the original Berestye village which was found by archaeologists and preserved within a roofed building. Although there isn't a great deal to see here I think anyone interested in getting an idea of how people lived in times gone past would enjoy a passing visit to this inexpensive attraction.
